Recently, I discovered that a large amount of damp dirt (earth, sand, and various leaves) had accumulated in the area near the door, after removing the plastic cover in the front wheel well.


BELOW, RUST ERODED THE METAL!

I JUST WANTED TO WARN YOU!

After 5-8 years, it's a good idea to take a closer look.

OF COURSE, EVERY THIRD GOLF ALSO RUSTS AT THE REAR DOOR (ABOVE THE LICENSE PLATE)!

Also, please also check under the door seal (lower area), you will find rust there!

Unfortunately, there's nothing new:-(. It's coming from the water drainage system under the windshield wiper cover. Every leaf that gets stuck in there can't get out from the bottom. Sand and grime make it even worse. Last week, I removed the fenders and discovered the scenario I described. In my opinion, the only measure that needs to be taken is to occasionally remove the splash guards after each winter to check for any issues.

It's the same with my A3 from 7/98. You just have to remove the inner fender liners every couple of years.
