Golf 4: Flickering Lights? Troubleshooting Guide

Well, hello there...
I'm having the following problem: For about a month now, the light in my car has been flickering. It started with just the parking light, but it disappeared when the engine speed increased.
Now, however, the whole situation is getting a little worse.
'When I turned on the lights last night, the flickering had become much worse. It now affects the H7 low and high beam headlights, as well as the interior lighting (mainly the interior light itself, not so much the MFA display, which has a blue light). I've (though it might be my imagination) often heard a clicking sound like a relay coming from the front, lower left footwell area after starting the car. Then, while driving, I stopped and revved the engine in neutral while it was still cold, and sure enough, the flickering got worse as the RPM increased. The engine even had misfires that were synchronized with the flickering. When I tried it again, the engine was warm, and then the problem disappeared above 2100 RPM.'

Does anyone have any idea what this could be before I go to the workshop?

Does the Golf IV have electric power steering? I only remember the problem with the Skoda Fabia, where the steering angle sensor caused the same symptoms in the vehicle as you are describing. If your Golf has conventional power steering, then other possibilities need to be considered. From a loose ground strap between the engine and the body to defective carbon brushes in the alternator (if it still has one), anything is possible. Perhaps a Golf specialist knows more.
