Hello.

'Does anyone know the problem where, in a Volkswagen Golf 3, only the right headlight always fails?'
Several new lamps have already burned out after a short period of time.
Swapping the bulbs from left to right doesn't make any difference either.

Sincerely,

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'Didl' is a German word that means 'a small, round object.' It can be used to refer to a variety of things, such as a ball, a marble, or a button.

Here is an example of how the word 'Didl' might be used in a sentence:

'The child was playing with a Didl in the garden.'

Hello,

Incandescent bulbs don't like vibrations. Is everything secure around the right headlight?

Best regards, Rainer.

Hi,

I used to have the same problem.
I've also tried everything possible.
I still don't know exactly what the problem was, but the only thing that helped was a new headlight.

Normally, I'm not one for immediately buying something new, but in this case, I just didn't care. I had to drive a lot in the mornings and evenings, and it was often dark.
And over time, the pears also became quite expensive.

Definitely, I haven't had to replace the front headlights since then.

Take a look and see if you can find a new or used one on eBay, or maybe from a junkyard.

Regards,
Thomas.

Hi,
Try checking if the internal components of the right headlight are securely fastened.
If that's not the case, a few small dots of silicone sealant, construction adhesive, or 'Grosser Eulenvogel'-Plus might solve the problem.

Best regards, Rudi.

Hi Rudi,

However, if you attach something to the headlight like that, the headlight leveling system will no longer function properly.

I've heard stories, or at least the previous owner of this car told me, about people putting 100-watt bulbs in their headlights. This makes the whole thing run so hot that the headlight (the internal components) can get damaged, become cloudy, or, more simply put, suffer irreparable damage.

If you find a plausible reason, I would also be interested to hear it.

Regards,
Thomas.

Hi,
Sh... that's icon_rolleyes.gif right. I didn't think about that last night (and my old Volvo - the one I had the problem with - didn't have headlight range adjustment).
However, a closer look at the headlights might still reveal something useful. Perhaps the defect can be repaired in a different way.

Best regards, Rudi.

Hi,

To what extent would moisture affect the pears?
I've seen quite a few cars in parking lots with headlights that are fogged up on the inside.
Could a leak in the sealing ring (SW) that allows water to enter be considered a reason for failure?

See you later.
Thomas.

I don't think moisture plays a significant role, as the pears are sealed airtight. In the event of a short circuit, the fuse should trip.

Moisture is more likely to damage the reflector and contacts. As mentioned before, bulbs don't like vibration or voltage surges, but those issues are less of a concern with this particular problem.
Due to the high resistance and resulting heat, the (plastic) bulb holders were deformed. Now, when I need to replace the bulbs, I have to bend the base of the (H1) lamps to fit properly. Of course, this doesn't improve the light distribution.
Perhaps the scale of your endeavor isn't large, but there's a resonant frequency that still amplifies the effect.
Best regards, Christian.
