Broken Wheel Part: Get Help Now!

Hello.

Yesterday, I put winter tires on my Golf IV TDI, and as it was nicely jacked up in front of me, something very strange caught my attention... There's a metal bracket attached to the left front wheel, pointing towards the brake disc. But there's nothing at that spot on the right side! What is this part for? Did I lose it? Or was it never there? Do I need to have it repaired? Hmm...
I took some photos of it and I'm adding them here...

Don't worry, that's perfectly fine. I'm not exactly sure what it is for (mine has xenon headlights, so there's a lot of stuff in the left wheel well that isn't present on the right side), but it definitely doesn't have anything to do with the suspension. It's probably just a bracket for a sensor or something like that...

This is the holder for the brake pad wear indicator!

Phew... well, now I'm relieved again... and hopefully won't have any nightmares. *grin* I thought I might have to go back to my trusted VW dealer, who would then install a new mass airflow sensor for a whopping 300 euros. *grumble*
