Hello,
"For some time now, I haven't been able to get the fuel gauge in my 1994 Golf3 TDI to reach the full mark. The problem is getting worse over time. Even when I fill the tank completely, the needle stops before the last mark."
Since I suspected the fuel level sensor, I replaced it.
However, unfortunately, without success

.
Now, only the indicator light on the instrument panel remained.
Okay, I removed the instrument cluster and disassembled it. The problem seems to be coming from the gauge itself. Either the pointer's bearing is worn out, or the bimetallic strip has lost its bending force over the past 9 years.
When you tap on the instrument cluster while it's installed, the needle slowly moves past the full mark.
According to VW, there are no replacement parts available for the instrument clusters. You have to buy the entire assembly new.
Does anyone know if replacement parts are available for the combination instrument panels?
The fuel gauge displays the number 92328004 from VDO.
However, replacing the fuel sender was still worthwhile. The hose connections on the top were changed. The old fuel sender had simple, smooth metal tubes. The new sender had tubes with a ridge. This allows the hoses to fit more snugly.
Without the clamps, the hoses on the old valve had no secure connection and were completely leaky.
Some air bubble problems in diesel lines might be caused by this.
Best regards, Oliver.
