If it doesn't start well...

Hi,

Learned something new this weekend.
Okay, here's the translation:

"For reference: Vehicle: T3 Syncro 16" bus with AFN engine."
On Friday evening, during a longer highway drive, I was a bit surprised by the low engine temperatures, although I wasn't driving very fast due to the wind and heavy rain (125 km/h instead of the maximum 145 km/h).
On Saturday morning, it only started after the fourth attempt.
Since I've been experiencing a bit of paranoia since my engine rebuild, I immediately thought about the KW (ignition timing) screw. Checking the injection timing showed everything was okay, but the coolant temperature, according to the engine control unit, was much too high. Further measurements confirmed that the temperature sensor is defective.
Yesterday, I drove a bit more with the faulty sensor, and again, the engine temperature dropped to extremely low values after a while. It's clear that the control unit is able to significantly influence the engine temperature without causing a noticeable loss of power.
Does anyone have any idea how the system does that?

Greetings.

Are you sure that both transmitters are connected correctly and that only one of them is defective?

Perhaps something is mixed up (how long have you been using the AFN in the T3??), or maybe some cables have been damaged, or the salt spray may have caused corrosion on the contacts.

You could simply attach a fixed resistor based on the characteristic curves of the sensors and see what the MSTG (presumably a measurement and control system) thinks about it.

I don't have the characteristic curve readily available in digital format right now, but I can scan it.

Yes, definitely. I'll answer the other questions at the same time:
I've been driving an AFN vehicle for 3 years, and I've driven approximately 70,000 kilometers in the bus.
No contact issues; the fixed resistor in the connector provides the correct temperature value (according to the VW characteristic curve) when reading the MSTG.
By the way, the MSTG uses the fuel temperature value as a substitute when the sensor is not present (connector disconnected).

I strongly suspect that only one of the sensors is faulty, as the coolant and oil temperature readings seem reasonable. The oil temperature sensor is a VDO unit and operates completely independently.
