Gearbox Conversion: Change Gear Ratio

Hello everyone!

Since I've now mentally ruled out installing a 6-speed transmission due to the immense amount of work involved (dual-mass flywheel, clutch, starter, drive shafts, etc.), I would like to draw on your experiences in the field of transmission conversions.

"More and more often, one hears and reads about transmission modifications where the 5th gear is extended, meaning a new set of gears is installed."
That would be one approach, but I think it would be more sensible to moderately extend the axle ratio to avoid making the jump between 4th and 5th gear too large.

Who has experiences they can share?
What is the cost and effort involved in making such modifications (parts costs, labor, etc.)?
Is it possible to perform these repairs without a complete overhaul of the gearbox?

Regarding your question, user Kenny has already performed a similar modification to my knowledge base.
I was asked how difficult the renovation would be, and I received the following answer:
Removed the gearbox, put in a new gear, closed the gearbox. I don't remember if Kenny posted this.
but one of the people who allegedly carried out the renovation.
I was also planning to rebuild the 5th gear. But the mechanic isn't very cooperative.
In that regard, and I don't necessarily want to put two gears on my nightstand if you know what I mean *g*.

Hello,

You can shift into the 5th gear with the gearbox installed; it's located at the very end and is accessible with the cover removed. To access the axle drive, you must completely disassemble the gearbox.
