Hello everyone,

'Recently, I was driving downhill at a high speed! I was in my Seat Toledo 1L with an AFN engine, using a PSI powerbox, in 5th gear at approximately 5100 RPM. The speedometer went well beyond 220 km/h, towards the button for the trip odometer!!! Can anyone tell me how many actual km/h I was going? I'll never do that again; the engine started making a louder noise than the wind. It didn't sound good at all.'
'On the straight road, he's going 220 km/h according to the speedometer, which corresponds to approximately 4500 RPM. So, what is the actual speed in km/h at 4500 RPM and 5100 RPM? I'm curious to know.'

Hi,

If you tell us the translation and the tire size you're using, we could calculate it, assuming your speedometer is accurate.

Typically, the AFN (Air Flow Needle) in the carburetor is adjusted so that 1000 revolutions per minute (RPM) corresponds to approximately 45 km/h. This would mean a speed of 202 km/h at 4500 RPM and 225 km/h at 5000 RPM.

I have no idea how that works with the Toledo.

Otherwise, I would NEVER drive a tuned TDI at full throttle down a mountain.

Best regards,

January.

Do you know anyone who would lend me a good (12-channel) GPS device?
If you can maintain a constant speed for a few seconds, it will display the exact value of 1 km/h.

We don't want to go into detail here about what you do with your AFN (Armed Forces Network).

Apart from the fact that the efficiency drops sharply below 4000.

The vehicle had winter tires, size 195/50 R15. I already knew that it's not good for the engine. This happened only once, at the beginning and end of my ownership, and lasted only a few seconds. It sounded really bad. I will never do something like that again. Is 4500 RPM on a straight road (not downhill) a lot? For a diesel engine, it's really not recommended to force it to such high RPMs by driving uphill. Fortunately, everything is still running wonderfully. Normally, I also don't drive above 200 km/h according to the speedometer.
How can I find out the gear ratio? I believe it's the same as for a G3. I inquired about a gearbox, and Seat told me that if I'm looking for a used one, I should get it from a G3 AFN, as it has the same ratio.

"Please provide the gearbox identification code. It's usually found in the service manual, on the gearbox itself, and on the type label (usually located in the trunk for Volkswagen vehicles)."

- why winter tires with a size of 195? icon_question.gif

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

"m" translates to "male" in English.

The winter tires were already installed by the previous owner, and I'm not sure why they had to be 195/50 size, although in my opinion, 185 would have been better for winter driving.
It is a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT).

Could it be that your tires are much too small? The standard size would be 195/60 x 15. They have a significantly larger rolling circumference, which has various consequences.

'However, the tires are factory-approved for that size. In the summer, I also use 195/50 R15 tires. The ones with a height of 60 are actually R14 and have a width of 185. And the 195/50 R15 tires are also common on many Golf 3 models.'

Sorry, my mistake. I was referring to the Volkswagen Golf IV.
