Hello, how long did the clutch typically last in a Golf III TD with 55 kW?
Ich hab jetzt 180.000km drauf und frage mich wie lange macht die noch. Drive fast.
only highway. Is there anywhere I can access the transmission to see the lining?

Hi,
I once had the same car and got rid of it with 190,000 km. I didn't exactly take good care of it, to be honest, but it mostly ran on the highway. At some point, the clutch slipped, but it eventually fixed itself later... It's quite possible that yours will reach 300,000 km, but it's hard to estimate. If you take good care of the clutch, that's a good thing. A lot of highway driving is already a plus (as long as you don't have to constantly start and stop in traffic for 3 hours a day) .
My company van (a Mitsubishi L300 with approximately 110 horsepower) already had its second new clutch at 60,000 km, but that was just a real lemon .

Hello,
"Normally, they only wear out in extreme cases with drivers who constantly slip the clutch. A more common problem with gearboxes of the 020 series (like in your Golf) is the sealing of the pressure rod, which actuates the clutch via the hollow gearbox shaft. There's a small oil seal (around 10 euros at VW) that eventually fails, causing the gearbox oil to drip onto the clutch. You'll first notice this when accelerating in 5th gear, later also in 4th, then in 3rd, etc. (It feels like driving on ice, the engine speed increases, but the car barely accelerates)."
Don't worry about it and just drive. If it breaks, you can replace it. With the AAZ engine, the head gasket also often fails, and cracks in the cylinder head can cause bubbling in the expansion tank. However, replacing the gasket preemptively would be just as pointless as replacing the clutch without a reason.

I can confirm the issue with the printing head and the seal.
My first JP had the same problem. The clutch only slipped when I was giving it full throttle in third gear.
"Definitely, the oil seal was no longer there!"
VW has a special rod to insert and remove it.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

If the sealing ring is broken, will there also be leaks to the outside?
My car is completely leak-proof. I hope it can last for another six months without any major problems.
The repairs are underway, as he's leaving in October and I'm getting a different car.
The only thing I would need to put in there now is lost money.
Things like starters, clutches, and turbos just pop into your head.
