I'm having a problem with my 6-speed transmission: the second and third gears are making a ratcheting noise when the car is cold. Once it's warm, there's no problem. Do you think a Slick50 transmission additive might help? I've already searched online, but I haven't found anything useful.

Best regards, WarLord.

Hello WarLOrd!

I can only recommend it.

I've always used Slick 50 in my Golf II and Polo G 40 because the gearboxes in those cars always have difficulty shifting.

With the new Castrol TAFX gear oil, it worked like a charm.

Regards,

Knubbi.

Hi,

I had problems with my 5th gear. When I had to drive uphill with the caravan attached, I always shifted back to 4th gear (because 5th gear is much too long icon_cry.gif), and when shifting back up, it would always make a slight clunking sound. Since I had two cans of Slik 50 for the gearbox still in the cupboard, I added it. After the last vacation (which just ended), there were no more noises.
I've been using Slik 50 for a long time, but I haven't had any negative experiences with it. I only had positive experiences with my father's old 54 hp diesel engine; it suddenly ran incredibly well and consumed less fuel. However, it eventually failed due to a timing chain issue, just 1 year and 5 weeks after the timing chain was replaced at a (specialized) workshop.

Hi.

I've used Slick 50 in all my Golfs, from the 2TD and 3TD models to my current Golf 4 TDI with the AHF engine.
Both the engine and the transmission!

The biggest improvement was in the two-cylinder engine: fuel consumption and oil consumption decreased, and the shifting was incredibly smooth!

I can't really tell with the four-cylinder engine, as there's hardly any oil consumption between service intervals, since I bought it a year ago with 160,000 km on the clock. Currently, it has 200,000 km, and my subjective assessment is that the engine runs slightly quieter.

After I managed to get the gearbox from the Tilgerdöngel, thanks to Ulf's contribution icon_exclaim.gif icon_idea.gif,
It became more difficult to push the gears in, but with Slick, it's much better! The most important thing is that the annoying clicking sound from the gear lever under load is no longer audible! icon_biggrin.gif

Despite the high price, I can only recommend it, as it guarantees engine reliability for the next 100,000 kilometers, and gearbox longevity that will last a lifetime, or even longer!

Best regards, Ferdi.

Hi Warlord.

My icon_biggrin.gif refers to the weight on the shifting shaft. Fortunately, it's removable in my case, but recently it's been permanently attached and can only be modified with a flexible angle grinder }.

Ulf is right; with that kind of weight, around 200g, located above the shift cable!
Sure, it's easy for the shifters to just slide in, but I'm not sure how the bearings will look after a while! My shift shaft already has noticeable axial play, which is wonderfully transmitted to the entire shifting mechanism, great!

Regards, Ferdi.

I completely agree with the previous comments. After using Slick50 on my used gearbox, the gears could be engaged with just a light touch! However, this effect only became noticeable after a few hundred kilometers, but overall, it's absolutely recommended!

The weight of the clutch disc for the 3-speed gearbox (02A) is not 200g, but over 900g!!!

I used to keep it outside because it's faster to get from the first to the second floor when you're in the city.

Meanwhile, I've managed to get it working again because the remaining steps are now working properly.

There's already a Liqui Moly fuel additive (those small tubes) on the shelf.

hi,
Since the minor shifting problems have not yet been resolved,
I will be changing the transmission oil soon and will also be adding Slick50 to it.
Let's see what it will bring.
greetings
