Hello,
I will likely need a new turbocharger soon. It's for my Golf IV Variant 1.9 TDI, manufactured in 2000, with engine code ALH and 90 horsepower.
According to VW, my car is equipped with a Garet turbocharger with the part number 038253019C. However, I have the opportunity to get another Garet turbocharger, with the part number 038253019A, at a good price.
According to the VW dealership, this part only fits engines with the AJM and AUY engine codes.
Is this correct??? Or will it also fit me???
Can someone help me with this?
Is it possible to simply install this turbocharger on my car, or will any modifications be necessary?
What do the 'A' and 'C' at the end of the part number mean?
Thank you very much, until next time...!
mima
Okay, here's the translation:
'Oh, and one more thing, my Golf sometimes hesitates at the same RPM, around 2800, and then again around 3300. It's like I'm letting off the gas, but then it picks up again after one or two seconds. This always happens in higher gears!'
Is the mass airflow sensor to blame?

Okay, so...
According to AKTE, the part number 038 253 019 C (X) is used in the following engines:
AHF, ALH, AJM, AUY
It costs 600 euros plus tax for the exchange.
The 038 253 019 A is only suitable for AGR engines.
If I'm interpreting the diagram correctly, the turbocharger on the AGR engine is separate from the exhaust manifold, while on the others, it's integrated as part of it (which would likely require a more extensive modification). However, I wouldn't necessarily do the conversion, because this particular technology was what made the engine so responsive back then.
Regarding the mass airflow sensor (MAF) issue: Use VAG-COM to measure MAF values, check the boost pressure control, and read any error codes. -> Remote diagnosis is not possible.

Log the mass flow rate values.
Since A is not equal to C, I would say that the turbos are NOT the same.
What's different is often difficult to figure out.
Um, HELLO.
An AGR turbo is a wastegate, while the others are variable geometry turbines (VTGs).
It definitely doesn't fit!

Hello,
According to the VW dealer here, the turbocharger with the 'A' at the end, which is only supposed to be used for the AGR engine, is also installed in the AJM and AUY engines. That's why I'm so confused.
The turbo I would buy isn't sold separately, but comes with the exhaust manifold. It's a turbo that has been completely refurbished by Garet, which makes it more affordable.
VAG.COM doesn't show any error codes for the MAF sensor, but could it still be defective?
Goodbye...

Yes, of course, it could be broken.
Please measure the full-load values of the mass airflow sensor (MAF).

A turbocharger cannot be installed on an AJM or AGR engine.
If you attach it to an AGR, it becomes a wastegate turbocharger, but on an AJM, a VTG will develop... no, your dealer watched too much alien stuff yesterday.

The dealer didn't say that the loader fits an AGR; that information was here on the forum. The dealer said it fits an AJM and AUY.
But it seems clear that it doesn't fit me, right?

"I also have an ALH engine and experienced similar problems. A log showed that the boost pressure overshot just before 3000 RPM during full acceleration, briefly reaching 1.3 bar. Then, the fuel injection was reduced, and the boost pressure dropped to 0.5 bar, slowly recovering. Above 3000 RPM, the problem disappeared, and the car reached its approximate maximum speed."
It's 99% a problem with the boost pressure control. You don't need to replace the turbo so quickly.
It turned out to be due to damaged vacuum lines in my case. After replacing the diesel filter, the engine runs even better. --------------------------------------------
