Starting July 1st, Shell will introduce a new V-Power Diesel fuel that is designed to be 'more responsive,' with a cetane number of 56 instead of 51. Additives are intended to prevent deposits from forming on modern injectors. The price will be 4 cents higher than conventional diesel. What do you think about this?

Best regards,

Did Aral not also have a "Whisper" diesel fuel with a cetane number of 55 at some point?

Tests have shown that the fuel, which is supposedly quieter due to its higher cetane number, only resulted in a reduction of noise by about 1 dB, and that was only noticeable in older diesel engines with swirl chambers.

Nice marketing trick.

I'll continue to buy the cheapest diesel I can find, mostly from Luxembourg.

Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English. I will only provide the translation.

- So far, there have been no issues with the diesel engine's starting ability.
-I don't have any modern injectors.
My ASV is quiet enough for me.
- If my usual gas station only offers V-Power Diesel, I will go to a different one.

My conclusion: 4 cents more, for benefits that I don't need. icon_rolleyes.gif

Ah, now I understand...

First, companies like ARAL and Shell start adding biodiesel to regular diesel fuel – this doesn't harm the engine.

and then they offer a premium diesel at a higher price.

Is this a joke? No, the premium diesel is supposed to be quieter... if you believe that.

I can't just let that kind of behavior slide.

Having also used about 400 liters of pure (Aldi brand) vegetable oil in between, I can tell you that the engine runs much quieter and smoother with it (a 50% mixture).

You don't need to spend 4 cents more; you should actually spend less.
Ultimately, you're mixing something in that currently costs 20 cents per liter less.
And that's with the same fuel consumption, while biodiesel easily consumes 10% more.

I gave up again because:

It's annoying to have to spend half an hour pouring liters of liquid into the gas tank on the Aldi parking lot.
2. Even if Aldi doesn't want to accept empty bottles, they still end up with about 30-40 bottles each time.
3. It can only be done in the summer because it becomes too thick in the winter.
4. The fuel filter tends to clog relatively quickly because the oil from Aldi wasn't filtered for use in engines. (Although, about 400 liters usually worked without problems).
I would have to transfer the stuff, filter it, and then fill up the tank. That's too much hassle for me.

I also tried using pure rapeseed oil for automotive purposes, but it's definitely too viscous even at a 10% concentration.

Conclusion: If you want a more affordable option and want to save some money, head to ALDI.

I don't need that Super Diesel; my car runs exclusively on NoName fuel.

Hello,

Okay, that's right. Even with a routine, it took me over 12 minutes to fill 45 liters. The solution: get an empty IBC container (a 1000-liter tank on a pallet) for free from a chemical, textile, or cosmetics factory, wash it out at a self-service car wash, and have it filled by an oil mill. It's about 10-15 cents per liter cheaper than at Aldi. I fill up using a 10-liter watering can from the hardware store.
2. I always did it at home, flattened it out -> yellow bag.
3. In winter, reduce usage to 20-30% or consider retrofitting.
4. That's not entirely correct. Aldi oil (which is a refined product) is fine enough and doesn't clog filters. However, it can dissolve old deposits (especially diesel sludge) from the tank and flush them into the filter, which may then become clogged 1-2 times. After that, things should be okay.

Best regards, Uli.

Hi Garth!

Well, I can't just let that kind of behavior slide.

Having also used about 400 liters of pure (Aldi brand) vegetable oil in between, I can tell you that the engine runs much quieter and smoother with it (a 50% mixture).

You also drive a TDI; did you not have an entry from 'Pöl ins Möl'? In my experiments (TDI AFN with 220,000 km), I observed extreme oil consumption. It was so alarming that I immediately changed the oil (from halfway on the dipstick to > max after one tank of fuel). I should also mention that at the time, I tried a mixture of 50:50 biodiesel and Aldi brand diesel, and I drive mostly short distances (~15 km per trip).

Currently, I'm running another test: using a different fuel blend with 200,000 km mileage, consisting of 80% diesel and 20% [presumably another fuel type, possibly gasoline or biofuel].

I hope that the bad experiences don't repeat themselves icon_sad.gif. Perhaps the nozzles are simply worn out after > 200,000 km?

If I were to put it that way.
Are you seriously just pouring salad oil costing 97 cents per liter from Aldi into the gas tank, without any modifications like pre-heating or anything else?

NO.

not Aldi oil for _79_ cents, I'll take Mazola for 1.20 icon_smile.gif).

Okay, seriously now. The point about "PIESELN" is that it involves absolutely __no__ modifications.

So far, I've only used expired cooking oil, and last Saturday was the first time I tried biodiesel.

We're going to AltPoel with a pre-heating session in the T3 bus.

Hehe yes, I obviously meant 79 cents icon_biggrin.gif.

"I've also read that the oil itself isn't as aggressive as biodiesel. I just didn't know that you could run it without any processing, meaning without preheating."
So, if I feel like it, can I just pour this stuff into my partially full tank? icon_idea.gif

Maybe don't start with 50% right away.

Slowly raise the level, and first add the POEL (presumably a type of oil), then top up with diesel to help the mixture blend better.

Hello dieselmartin!
I've been tempted for a long time to try filling up my 1Z car at Aldi.
How many kilometers have you driven so far?

Do I understand this as a joke or something serious? icon_question.gif I mean, I know that Aldi oil and biodiesel have a lot in common. But are you really just filling up with it without any modifications? So, I'd like to try it out and spend some time pumping gas in the parking lot. People will probably look very confused, and it would be good for my wallet.

In the summer, this isn't a problem. However, in the winter, the mixture could become quite thick.

Hi,

No, those are two completely different things. At Aldi, they sell refined vegetable oil (which is separated based on the boiling points of the different oils).
Biodiesel is rapeseed methyl ester, which is essentially rapeseed oil that has been made less viscous through a process called transesterification.
Unlike biodiesel, salad oil does not damage seals, and I would not recommend putting biodiesel into a salad icon_smile.gif.
"However, since Aldi, Lidl, and others have increased the price of vegetable oil (it used to be as low as 69 cents!), I only add it to the tank very rarely these days – usually just leftover amounts from my wife's cooking."
The savings aren't that significant with a 30% plant oil content; it's only 0.3 * 20 cents = 6 cents per liter. That's the usual range of fluctuation you experience when you fill up at the right gas station at the right time.
With a full tank of about 45 liters, you've earned yourself a small treat (which you can easily grab from the freezer at Aldi anyway). Unfortunately, our TDIs don't like fuel as much as those old pre-combustion chamber diesels did.
If they sold gasoline for 59 cents at stores like Aldi, Lidl, and Norma, I would definitely go there to fill up my tank.

Best regards, Rainer.

DThis stuff freezes in the winter; I think it stops freezing around -10°C (approximately 50°F).
Considering the initial costs, such as the conversion kit, a dual-tank system only pays for itself after about 2.5 years with my mileage of approximately 25,000 km, and then you start saving money.
