Hey everyone,
I'm looking for a way to increase the ground clearance for the rear axle of my vehicle, as I occasionally transport a horse in a trailer. Does the dealership offer anything like that? Mine didn't have an opinion on the matter, or perhaps there are options available at an auto parts store. I remember there used to be a hydraulic system from Sachs for my old 35i.
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards from Harald in Wiesbaden .
Hello,
In the past, for situations like this, there were systems called 'level lifts.' They used a small compressor and air-supported shock absorbers to maintain a constant ride height.
'Today, there are special shock absorbers available that maintain the ride height without any external power source, solely through the movement of the shock absorbers themselves. Sachs calls them 'Nivomat.' However, I'm not sure if they are any good. Since I'm considering buying some myself, I tried using the search engine on Motor Talk, which, as usual, didn't work properly, and I found that they are standard equipment on some Volvos, and that some people are having problems with them. Whether the reasons for these problems lie with the Volvos or with the Nivomats themselves, only the gods know. I saw them at www.autoteilebox.de.'
If you manage to get any more information, please let me know.
There's a similar system from Monroe called "Level Light." I had it in my Golf 3. It was great for towing. The shock absorbers were only 10 euros more expensive than the standard ones.
