Hello,
"I've recently been experiencing a 'rumbling' noise that only occurs when turning sharply."
The service advisor at the dealership told me that the noise was coming from the differential.
Nummer Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English. I will then provide only the translation, without any explanations.
Fresh broth was added, and an immediate improvement was noticeable.
The expert said it could take up to 500 kilometers for it to completely disappear.
Okay, here's my actual question: The original transmission oil (factory fill) has the part number G052 171 A2.
The new oil has the number G052 726 A2.
Can someone tell me the exact difference?
Does the original one have a 75W90 viscosity?
What is the viscosity of the new G052 726 A2?
Best regards, Jürgen.

Hello!
And how is it today, after some time? Are the noises still gone, or have they reappeared?

Does anyone happen to know the difference between this and 75W90 gear oil? I recently filled this into a repaired Audi 80 transmission, and it's making unusual noises.

To the person who started this thread... do you own an A3?
So, for Audi, the part number 171 A2 is for the 6-speed transmission, and the part number 726 A2 is for the 5-speed transmission.
However, I believe it should be the other way around, meaning that the 171 A2 should be used instead of the 726 A2!

What's the difference? Why does a six-speed transmission need a different type of oil?
Best regards, WarLord.

'So, it looks like it's only being replaced because the factory probably put the wrong type of oil in – the 5-speed oil.'
why it needs/gets a different oil - no idea... there's definitely a clever engineer who thought something through .

The transmission oil was also replaced in my car due to rumbling and whining noises when driving with the steering wheel turned. Now, the noises are even louder and more intense than before.

Did they put a different type of oil in for you at the end, one that was different from what was originally installed?
If the noise only occurs when turning, the source of the noise is likely the differential. Gruß Ulf

Hello Ulf!
I've been wondering the same thing. Especially since VW's service department has already been involved in making this decision. I was supposed to drive 1000 km with the new oil and then possibly change it again. But the way things are looking now, I probably won't even need to drive 1000 km to realize that the new oil is bad. The noises that I complained about before are now even more noticeable.
It looks like it will probably end up being a transmission replacement .

Have you ever looked at all the documents from MichaelII? There was something about using two different types of oil in the ASZ transmission. I have an ERF from mid-2002 and have never had any problems. A friend has the same car with the same ERF, but from January 2002, and the transmission occasionally made slight noises and felt subjectively a bit harder to shift than mine. I then read through all the documents and somewhere I saw that there was a different oil used (I've seen and posted the number many times here). Since he put that oil in and changed it again after 1000 km (everything was done free of charge), the transmissions feel the same when shifting and are completely silent.
I'm not sure to what extent I can help you with that.

I'm also having a problem with the ERF transmission and cornering - it makes that typical whining noise. But which oil is the right one to use?
see also the link on the left here: https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=2546&highlight=getriebe%F6l+6gang
and here http://www.michaelneuhaus.de/golf/golf4maengel.htm#m
The fact is, according to the current ET-PROG data, the G 052 171 A2 is designed for the 6-speed transmission.
and G052 726 A2 is for the 5-speed.

Just to change the subject from the transmission for a moment: a faulty wheel bearing caused a whining and rumbling noise during cornering or when turning sharply.

Don't worry - it's not the wheel bearings; they were already replaced under warranty.
'They don't last very long anymore within the VW group, but the problem really stems from this - it's been happening for 70,000 km.'
