Hello, I have a Volkswagen Golf IV (Variant), manufactured in 2003.
Okay, so my Golf is an imported vehicle and doesn't have a dedicated ESP switch. Is there a way to disable the ESP?

Are you sure your vehicle actually has ESP?
ESP was only standard equipment on vehicles delivered in Germany.
ESP is a paid option in some countries. In those cases, the car will also have a switch to enable or disable it. Gruß Bertil

If your car has a Golf with over 100 horsepower, instead of an ESP button, there will be an ASR button. This turns off the ASR system. As far as I know, the EDS remains active. If there isn't a switch for ESP, then there simply isn't one.
But let's be honest. What do you want to turn it off for, and why do you think it has a switch if there isn't one?
By the way, the warning light for the ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation) is the same as the one for the ESP (Electronic Stability Program), which is a yellow triangle with arrows around it.

Hello, I attended a security training session on Sunday.
and if I had caused the vehicle to skid on a smooth road surface.
'The ESP system was activated, specifically on the front wheels. I also heard something adjusting on the wheels (everything without engaging a gear), and the teacher confirmed that's how it works. I have the same issue with another Golf IV variant. I'm trying to find out where I can disable the ESP. Without ESP, I spun out. And there's no switch for ASR either. I also don't get any confirmation in the instrument cluster.'

"Then you have a unique, special vehicle. If it makes noises when cornering or driving straight on slippery/wet surfaces and a system engages, then in your case, it's very likely the ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation). My Golf also doesn't have ESP (manufactured in 2002 in the Netherlands; it would have cost an extra 600 euros). Even with me, it can happen that the yellow light flashes and a clicking sound similar to ESP is heard when taking wet, fast corners. However, this is just the ASR trying to compensate for the different wheel speeds of the front wheels. Otherwise, do you have the ASR button? If nothing happens when you press it, then I don't know what else to suggest; perhaps you should open the hood and take a look. First, check the ABS/ESP module in a Golf that definitely has it, and then have someone inspect yours. In my case, the box is much smaller. Otherwise, go to a VW dealer and have them use a diagnostic tool to determine what your car has and what it doesn't."
If it doesn't have one and you were sold it with the understanding that it should, I would immediately contact the person who sold it to you.

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"Hi,"
Whether or not you have ESP (Electronic Stability Program) can be easily determined by checking the diagnostic data or the equipment code.
The equipment codes are located on a sticker in the trunk floor and in the service booklet.
Below.
http://www.doppel-wobber.de/index.html -> Golf4 -> all information -> equipment codes.
You can then query all your entries. This will also show the brake system configuration.
I'm quite sure that your car doesn't have ESP!
EDIT:
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
"Addendum:"
1AC = ABS
1AE = ABS + EDS.
1AH = ABS + EDS
1AJ = ABS + EDS + ASR
1AT = ABS+EDS+ASR+ESP <---- This entry is required for the ESP (Electronic Stability Program) to function in your Golf. Gruß Bertil

According to your list, I would only need section A.
'But when my rear end slipped to the right, he corrected it by turning sharply to the right.'
Okay, I would also do that, but I can't turn off the ASR (Anti-Slip Regulation). If I couldn't turn it off, then I probably don't even have it installed, and I haven't braked either.
I also tried it later with the brakes, but he didn't brake either. He only adjusted the VVL (Variable Valve Lift), but I'm going to VW tomorrow; they can tell me more about it.
'But VW has stated that there are vehicles where the ESP button is missing, and consequently, there is no warning light either.'
Other vehicles equipped with ESP (Electronic Stability Program) have exhibited the same behavior.
But I'll check on it tomorrow.

Keine EDS? That surprises me.

If he only adjusted the front, then it's not an ESP.
In the Kia EV6 (G4), an oversteering rear end is typically not well or at all corrected by the Electronic Stability Program (ESP).
see also: https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=3527 (read completely!)
I suspect your car has Electronic Stability Control (ESC), which regulates the speed of different wheels and brakes the faster wheel (even without power being applied!), but only up to 40 km/h.

ASR typically only reduces engine power but does not actively apply the brakes.

I don't know of any currently.
Explain that to me! I'd like to know more about it.
P.S.:
"Years ago, I attended a safety training course at ... . There, we were driving an Astra that couldn't be made to lock up its wheels during emergency braking. The instructor said, '...that's what ABS is like...'."
However, the driver insisted that her vehicle did not have ABS. I then looked for the ABS hydraulic unit. It wasn't there! To make matters worse, the car didn't even have a brake force limiter (BKV). The nice lady simply didn't have enough weight in her thighs to apply enough pressure to lock up the brakes.
The vehicle was a re-imported Opel Astra from Spain, with an engine power of 50-60 horsepower.
However, the instructor continued to claim that the vehicle has ABS... Gruß Bertil

Skoda still insists, in its glossy magazine and configurator, that Electronic Differential Lock (EDS) is only available in the all-wheel drive models and not at all in the front-wheel drive versions.
It doesn't prevent my wheels from spinning out of control and allows me to skillfully catch them .
At least the equipment code is correct (1AJ).
So, never just blindly believe what anyone tells you...
I only remember that the VTG could never have a 90 horsepower TDI engine.

Okay, but I can tell you why it didn't work in the back.
because I had engaged the handbrake to make the vehicle stall, and I also left it engaged.
I also turned the steering wheel quite a bit, and it didn't have any gears.
inside
'However, the vehicle was so well controlled that I could easily avoid the accident (I only had to steer once). Without ESP, I wouldn't have been able to maintain control at the same speed.'
But I'll clarify that with the dealer tomorrow.
But thank you again.

You can forget about doing things like that with ESP.
As soon as the rear wheels lose traction, the ESP brakes both front wheels. Turning is almost impossible. The car stays in its lane. At least, my G4 with ESP reacts this way.
I'm a rally driver and I'm quite good at performing the "quick turn" maneuver, but with my G4, I have to disable the ESP first, otherwise it just goes straight. Gruß Bertil

As I mentioned, my vehicle lost contact with the ground at a speed of 50 km/h.
The ground had a grip of 0.9, and it was supposed to feel like snow. At 40 km/h, it still provided good traction (no wheel spin). From what I've learned, ESP only brakes one or two wheels, and in this case, it would have been the right wheels, according to the principles of ESP.
But as I said, ask Volkswagen tomorrow.
But I didn't know that yet. Thank you for clarifying.

You've just explained the noises you were hearing yourself! It was the pure ABS system that was trying to make the rear wheels, which were locking up, rotate again by reducing brake pressure.
I'm simply questioning your assessment that he was "controlling the front," as the noises always seem to come from the BKV (presumably a device), which is actually located in front of you. However, the interference likely only affected the rear wheels.
Regards,
Sure.

How should I react in a car with ESP if it tends to oversteer? Should I just let the car do its thing? Because when I tried something during a driving safety training session, the car spun out completely. Once I turned off the ESP and let it happen, it worked perfectly. I found that quite strange.
Best regards, WarLord.

'Try searching the forum; it's exactly the same effect we experienced in the Golf and Passat.'
Therefore, in the winter, the first thing you reach for is the 'ESP OFF' switch.
