Hey fellow mechanics,
I'm not sure if I'm even in the right place to ask this question, but maybe someone knows something about it.
My new G4 has a simple navigation system from VW. Now, I would like to add a list of my own locations to the contents of the navigation CD, locations that I visit repeatedly in different orders (I'm a field service technician).
Theoretically, it should be possible to expand the list of existing points of interest (POIs) and then burn the entire collection back onto a CD.
The advantage would be that I would only need to enter one location code instead of having to enter the city, street, and possibly the house number.
Does anyone have any information about whether something like that is possible?
Thank you and greetings.
Eike.

Hi,
If you have the appropriate map compiler and possess the raw data, you can add Points of Interest (POIs).
However, since both of those things are not easy to obtain, your plan is unlikely to be completely straightforward. Gruß Bertil

Let's try a different approach:
Why don't you simply store those destinations in the memory? With my Audi navigation system (the basic one), it was also possible – it had a destination memory. And there was also a 'last 10 destinations' feature.

Let's put it another way:

Hi Arne,
I'm going to test this out. My list of points of interest would normally be around 250 entries, but even after trimming it down, it's still about 100. Can this device store that much?
I'll try it out as described above. Let's see if it works.
Greetings.
Eike.

Oh, no. I think a maximum of 25 goals are achievable there.
Good luck - please post how you solved it

That's just one of the good things about a PDA navigation system .
You can save data until the SD card is full .
But let's get back to the problem. What do you mean by "POIs"?
Gas stations, restaurants, hotels, train stations, town halls, etc.?
If so, then at least the "large" VW navigation system with a color screen from the Golf 4 can provide you with this data. A basic set of information is already pre-loaded.
You enter the desired destination and then initiate a search within a specified radius for points of interest (POIs) of the category you're looking for. Hopefully, that will be helpful. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96
VW Passat 3B Variant Highline, MKB AEB, EZ98, LPG
Opel Vectra C SW First Edition, MKB Z19DTH, EZ05
Aktuell: Ford Ranger 3,2l, Automatik, MKB SAFA, EZ 2014

Hi,
Okay, I meant my own POIs (Points of Interest). For me, that would be a list of locations, ideally with over 1200 entries, that I visit in different orders, with approximately 150 of them being visited at regular intervals. However, these locations have nothing to do with the existing ones.
Currently, I am manually saving each location I visit. Let's see when the storage space is full.
Aus einen anderen Forum weiß ich, daß das Thema mit dem editieren der Standorte schon x-mal diskutiert wurde und die einhellige Meinung ist, daß es nicht geht. ScOkay.
I was just reading the user manual for the NAVI-CD, and it says they welcome suggestions for improvements and additions. Well, that gives me an idea. Let's see what they say...
Greetings.
Eike.

Hi,
Here's another question: Has anyone managed to create a working backup of the current navigation CD? I want to put the original away and use a copy in the car. Despite using CloneCD, it's not working.
Since Navis likely doesn't have to adhere to a specific standard like PCs do, they've probably come up with a really shady way to implement copy protection.
Okay, then I'll just leave it. It's a shame about the CD, though, because it's getting pretty scratched up from being in the car...
Greetings.
Eike.

Mach das mit Nero und dann ganz wichtig: 1x Schreib-Geschwindigkeit, bzw. so langsam wie's geht. Am bestern Silber oder Blaue Rohlinge. Then it will work.

Hi Arne,
Nero doesn't read the CD. It reports an invalid data mode or something similar. Only CCD could read the CD. However, it reported the first approximately 5000 sectors as defective and then also emulated them during the burning process. Nevertheless, the navigation system still requires a CD for VW navigation systems.
I don't think the problem lies with the blank disc itself. I also tried a rewritable disc, but it reported a CD error.
Do you think that a single burn rate is the key factor?
Greetings.
Eike.

Okay, I never really had problems with Nero itself. But I did have issues with blank discs that were burned at 32x. I don't know how to explain that. However, it's well-known in the relevant forums and 'among the guys' that you should burn at 1x. I also had problems with blank discs in general. As I said, silver/blue discs should work.
What kind of CDs are these? What does the sentence about North, South, and connecting roads 'DX' refer to?

Since DX'CDs are being exchanged for testing purposes in relevant forums, I don't think the format can be that terrible.

Hi,
This is the 'Navigation CD (DX), Germany, Volkswagen Club Edition (V2)' with part number 1K0.051.844.
It also explicitly states that it is copy-protected.
Greetings.
Eike.
