Hello.

Yes, it's me again, sorry icon_wink.gif.

Okay, so I deactivated my AGR (Aktivkohlefilter/Activated Carbon Filter) and, as expected, I got an error message.

Now, I wanted to adjust the AGR (Abgasrückführung) rate using VAGCOM, and I have an officially registered version of VAGCOM!

The login (as described in the technical article) worked, but now I'm a bit stuck.

http://www.andre77.de/dat/vgcom_agr.jpg

Which of the two values above represents what? Which one should be reduced?

And what can I enter in the 'new Value' field to achieve the best possible result (i.e., the lowest possible AGR)?

I hope I haven't nerfed it too much, and thanks for reading!

Regards,
Andre.

You need to set the value to the highest possible setting (I believe it's 33768). This will increase the proportion of fresh air and, consequently, reduce the proportion of exhaust gases.

@andre

I don't quite understand. What changes do you want to make to the AGR control system if you've already deactivated it?

Hi.

Right now, I'm getting an error message, and the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) is on because the engine control unit (ECU) seems to be detecting (perhaps through the mass airflow sensor reading?) that the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system isn't working. Since I don't want this to happen, I've (or rather, I've now) reduced the EGR value. Hopefully, the ECU won't notice this!
(All information is contained in the article.)

Regards,
Andre.

I don't quite understand. What do you want to change about the AGR control, if you've already deactivated it anyway?

shift the tolerance window so that no errors are counted.

icon_redface.gif I could have figured that out myself. My AHF (Automatic High Frequency) doesn't care whether the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) is deactivated or not.

Hi.

Okay, here's an update on the current status:

The adjustment seems to have worked in that '33638' is now permanently saved (which is the maximum value allowed!?), but unfortunately, this doesn't seem to change the values above much (or is that normal?).

I've been driving with this for almost 3 days now, and I haven't had any problems. I'm actually enjoying the more responsive engine and the lower fuel consumption.

Today, the MIL (Malfunction Indicator Lamp) started to light up again, just 2 meters in front of the front door (while slowly rolling in second gear). It's showing the same errors as before, like 'EGR, blabla range exceeded,' so it's detected that the EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system is not working new_cry.gif.

Is there a way to further customize or adapt this, or do I just have to accept it as it is?

Perhaps you should also start the engine before reading the mass airflow values? icon_idea.gif
You're not actually seeing any measured values, but just "placeholders." What would the engine control unit even measure in terms of air mass with the engine at a standstill?

To avoid potential error messages, I would personally prefer a 'hardware solution'. What is the current status of the fake AGR (Abgasrückführung) mass airflow bypass devices being discussed in this forum?
A reduced mass airflow sensor reading when the AGR valve is activated shouldn't be too difficult to diagnose...

Best regards, Rainer.

So, the target air mass at idle should have changed significantly (at least 50 mg upwards, if I recall correctly)!

?
I'm afraid I agree with the latter... What kind of engine do you have, and what year is the car?

Which number is it? (in the image above)

The engine needs to be an ASZ, which is a 130 HP common rail diesel engine in a 2005 Leon (manufactured in 2004).

2nd and 3rd (target and actual values).

To avoid potential error messages, I would personally prefer a 'hardware solution'. What is the current status of the fake AGR (Abgasrückführung) mass airflow bypass devices being discussed in this forum?
A decrease in the mass airflow sensor voltage when the EGR valve is activated shouldn't be that difficult to diagnose...

Okay, I wasn't entirely clear about the starting process, because all I want to know is whether the target value changes, and it should still be visible even when 'visible' is turned off...

The 'hardware solution' would probably not be difficult to implement, BUT wouldn't that then eliminate the 'advantage' of being able to respond more spontaneously?

Hi,

Why should there be a disadvantage? I don't think it's because there's more air (which can't be used anyway without more diesel), but rather because you don't have the closing delay of the AGR valve, which means the turbocharger can respond a bit faster because the exhaust gases driving it are fully available.

However, be aware that any manipulation of the EGR system will result in the loss of the operating license.

Best regards,

Jan.

Axo, okay, that could also be the case... well, let's just wait and see how things develop.
Has anyone here ever thought about a 'hardware' solution for this?

However, be aware that any manipulation of the EGR system will result in the loss of the operating license.
Yes, of course, I'm only using it for the racetrack icon_wink.gif.

I'm going to post my answer there, in https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?t=7259:.

Uff icon_exclaim.gif I actually hope that this question is a bad joke icon_exclaim.gif.

Hey everyone! There are a few rules in this forum, and two of them are particularly important.
1. Read a professional article.
2. Use the search function.

You can find technical articles by looking further down the main page, under the section labeled "Technical Articles," rather than going directly into categories like "Engine, Transmission, and Electrical Systems." The technical article "Function of the AGR" is already available under the first point, "General."

Sorry, but these are really the questions that I regularly forget icon_evil.gif.

@guste100:

If your answer to the question addressed the hardware aspects, you are correct. I have since found some information about the search. SORRY!
And in that case (if I've found the right thing), there isn't really a 'solution' either...

P.S.: It would have been more helpful if you had posted a link to the relevant post...
