Golf 4 Seat: How to Fix the Clicking Noise

Hello,

seit einiger Zeit stelle ich ein knacken im Fahrersitz fest, zB in starken Kurven, oder bei stärkerem Bremsen. Meiner Ansicht nach kippt der Sitz dann auch leicht nach vorne. The car has 120,000 kilometers on the odometer.
When you wiggle the seat, you can see that the rollers in the seat rails have some play, but it's almost the same on my friend's A3 (with 20,000 km) - except that it doesn't make any noise there.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I read somewhere that a weld seam was broken in an A4. Could that be the case here as well?

Do you have the Easy Entry function?
If so:

The noises can occur when the seat is subjected to lateral stress, for example, when sitting down, standing up, or when driving through a curve.

Cause:
The protective cap on the Easy Entry release mechanism is missing.

Solution:
- Unlock the support and fold it forward.
- If the plastic protective cap on the Easy Entry release (located on the side of the seat) is missing, a new cap must be installed (clipped in).

The seat in my '98 Golf IV also started to creak quietly. As it got louder...
I just took a quick look underneath. Here's a picture of it.

The entire weld seam was completely broken. It was also amusing to see VW's attempt to fix the creaking noise.

Oops, that looks bad. I'll check right away to see if it's broken on my end too.
What did you do then? Did you weld something? Or did you install a new seat frame?

Can this be easily welded? Is there a side airbag involved?



@Michael II: I have a 4-door model, so it doesn't have the Easy Entry seats.

VW was trying to make the repair a little cheaper for me (around 250 euros for the seat frame).
aber ich hatte dankend abgelehnt. Die reparieren mir nichts mehr. I have the seat.
It was rebuilt and welded. Now it's as quiet as it was on the first day.

Edit: I also have a 4-door model. The connector for the side airbag can be easily removed and secured with a shorting plug. I had the instructions for disassembly.

Well, EasyEntry usually has little to do with this problem. In my Golf 4, the seat rails were replaced, and only then was there finally peace and quiet in the car...

As far as I remember, they are screwed into the bottom. You also have to loosen them to remove the seat.
