hello,

I have been struggling for quite some time without success, with the well-known "warm start problem" icon_evil.gif. I have already tried a few things, and I would also like to try a different starter motor. icon_rolleyes.gif Since I have to remove the part anyway to verschandeln it, etc., I could get a replacement from a junkyard for 50€. icon_question.gif
As I have read frequently, some TDI models were originally equipped with starters that, over time, no longer provide the necessary speed for a proper warm start. Could someone perhaps tell me how to identify the correct starter? Are there different manufacturers? Does Bosch produce different variants? }

I would appreciate any tips you can offer.
Dad.

Hello,

I had the same problem. When the engine was warm, it took a bit longer to start. Also, the starter motor made a strange noise, like a bearing was faulty.
I then got a new starter motor. During the installation, I was surprised to find that the old one was built completely differently than the new one.
The old starter had a relatively long shaft that was supported somewhere on the engine block. With the new starter, the support is located entirely on the starter itself. The new starter is significantly shorter, but the shaft with the pinion gear is much thicker and better supported.
The old one also had a completely worn-out axle.
The noise I heard was coming from the defective bearing on the shaft.
I think that's also why it didn't reach the same speed.
The difference is also in the part number. The last letter was higher than the one on the old part.
Gruss Oliver.

hello golf3schrauber,

Do you still have the part number for the new part? And was the problem completely resolved afterwards?

"Warm start problems can have various causes other than a faulty starter. How many kilometers has your car been driven? Have you checked the diesel filter? Is there air in the fuel system? What about the fuel injection timing? Are the valve timings correct? Have you checked the error memory? I would always check everything thoroughly before buying any parts."

However, I also don't think getting a TDI starter motor from a recycling center is a real solution to the problem.

Hi,

I only have the old starter motor here. I can look up the part number if you like.
It solved my starting problems because the old starter motor had a bearing failure.

Hello,

The VW part number for the old starter motor is 02A 911 023 G. The newer version had the same number, but the last letter was one position higher. It might have been H, but I'm not entirely sure anymore.
Gruss Oliver.

You're welcome, Oliver.

I'll take a look around. Regarding Matthias' suggestion, I, or rather, 2 different workshops, have been searching for the problem since August. Everything that has been written about the problem in this forum or in the technical articles has already been checked... except for the starter. I think it's worth a try, especially since replacing it is not a problem icon_confused.gif.
