Hello everyone!

I recently saw a picture of an intake manifold that belongs to the 96kW PD engine.
I immediately noticed three vacuum hoses: one for the diverter valve, one for the EGR valve, and another located on the 90-degree bend leading to the cylinder head.
Is there a variable swirl flap installed, or what is the purpose of this vacuum chamber?

Please clarify!

Okay, while comparing the part numbers, I noticed that all intake manifolds use the same gasket, which means the PD (presumably referring to a specific engine or component) also doesn't have larger inlet openings in the cylinder head.
Can you confirm or deny this?

Regards,
Alex.

Could it be that you're confusing the third-party pressure can with...?
from the water-cooled EGR pipe.

That's how it's currently implemented in newer vehicles to reduce NOx emissions.
The device then somehow redirects the water flow.
From cold engine to warm engine.

Engine cold to engine warm.

'If I recall correctly, only the newer (2.0) models and the V10 TDI have this feature?'

My ALH engine only has a non-switched EGR valve.
(ALH-automatic has water-cooled EGR!)

@SteffarnViewing profile: Steffarn:

This pressure vessel definitely has nothing to do with the attached intercooler.
Therefore, I tapped on the throttle valve icon_wink.gif.

Alex.

That part isn't available on my AWX... and neither is a water-cooled EGR valve. Why would it be? It's sealed anyway! icon_cool.gif

Hm, I don't see anything in the pipe routing next to the "box" that suggests a wave bearing or any other small parts used to move a valve. icon_eek.gif

Ulf is right; it's the lower part of the upper mounting point of the nice black cover. It also came apart on my car during the second assembly, and since then I've had to detach it individually because it's a bit oddly assembled.

um...

'However, the engine cover on my AWX Passat is only secured with 3 screws at the top... Is this perhaps a change that was made on the newer models with the 96 kW engines?'

"On the Passat, it's screwed in, but on my Golf, this thing is simply plugged in at the front and back onto these strange plastic rubber mounts. If you pull out the oil dipstick and then give it a firm tug, you can hold the whole thing in your hand (Golf 1J). I assume that it works exactly the same way on all PD engines in the Golf, since the caps are all the same."

.... long live the developers... icon_evil.gif

However, I find the Passat solution to be three times better, even though it can sometimes be annoying.

I would prefer the ready-made solution.

If even HE can't manage to detach himself on his own...

It's incredibly useful when you want to watch something quickly. That annoying screwing thing always gets on my nerves...

How about the radical solution?
Once you remove the cover and its brackets, you have unrestricted access to the engine. icon_twisted.gif

-> Even my (rather sensitive) better half didn't notice any significant difference in terms of noise with the ALH. icon_wink.gif

You'll definitely notice it with a PD (presumably referring to a product or device), even my wife complained when I "forgot" to put the cover on.
The PD then sounds like an old Hannomag.

Well, that's something... with mine, I can barely hear any difference (as I'm used to from Golf and Ibiza models) icon_eek.gif.
-> I've been driving it ("topless," meaning without the roof) since the Polo was just a few days old, of course.

Not good; pedestrian safety suffers as a result, and the small crumple zone between the engine and hood is eliminated.
