CCV Filter Installation: How to Replace Yours

While studying the American TDI forum, I noticed that clogging of the intake tract due to the EGR and CCV systems is a major issue.

Is this also relevant to us?

I plan to install a Provent filter in my engine's crankcase ventilation system (PCV) to reduce oil contamination in the intake tract.

Does anyone have experience with this? The storage space in my Touran is very limited, and I would appreciate any tips or advice regarding this.

Hi, I installed the Provent 200 from Hummel+Mann, and it's incredibly simple to install on the PD engine because there's plenty of space where the vacuum pump usually sits. I made a bracket myself and got the hoses, and that was all. The installation location for the filter isn't strictly regulated, which I personally see as an advantage. I also left the half-hearted solution from VW in place.

I'm not entirely sure how it looks in a Touran, but I think it's probably similar to my Golf. So, remove the engine cover and you should find a spot.

However, I'm not sure if I should make this investment again. The AGR (Abgasrückführung) system is defective, which isn't a problem for me right now, but I've noticed a significant decrease in the oil film in the charge air duct. However, there is still some oil present, which is likely leaking from the turbocharger.

I can't say what it looks like underneath the plastic, as I was just thinking about whether the AZV (presumably referring to a specific engine component) is a 4-valve 2.0 version, but I have a 1.9 engine.

The space available for the four-valve cylinder head on the AZV engine is very limited, even under the relatively high hood of the Touran. The cylinder head itself is wider, and there's also a lot of other 'clutter' around it that actually makes life difficult for the engine (AGR valve, throttle valve, oil filter and cooler, convoluted intake manifold to the air filter, etc.).

'Despite that, I successfully installed the Provent 200 yesterday, using some hoses from the hardware store. However, the nice silver cover no longer fits properly. But I can live with that. It seems to be working perfectly, and I'm probably rid of the oil problem in the intake system.'

MatthiasTDI96, what are you doing with the oil that drains out of the PCV valve? I installed a plastic hose about 30 cm long, which is closed at the end with a stopper. This way, I can see how much oil is coming out. I'll report on it and post some photos sometime.

I've attached a plastic bottle directly to it from the lab; it holds about 200ml. Check it every 2000km or so. I've only had to empty it once so far, and I pour the contents into an empty oil can, which I then take for disposal during the next oil change.
