Tachometer Sensor Location: Where is G28?

Hi,

My Golf TDI engine (1Z) occasionally misfires. Sometimes it's even two strong misfires in a row. It doesn't feel healthy at all.

Error code 0513: Sensor for engine speed (G28).
No signal; intermittent.

I'd like to take a look at the wiring and the component that is likely responsible for the error. But I can't find the sensor anywhere.

Should I watch it from below or from above?

Or could it be the hall sensor? If so, where is it located?

I'm not sure how it works specifically with the 1Z engine. In the past, the alternator had an additional connection that provided a voltage proportional to its speed. Check if there are any extra cables connected to the regulator.
I can imagine that the engine control unit compares this signal with the one from the pump and, if there are significant differences, temporarily switches to emergency mode because it doesn't know what's going on. But maybe someone else knows better...

Unfortunately, it's completely wrong. The engine control unit needs precise speed and crankshaft position information.
The engine speed sensor operates on an inductive principle and is located on the clutch bell. It looks like a thick pin that is attached with a screw.

When disassembling, it's important to pay attention to the sealing ring of the G28, as it can easily fall into the clutch bell.
