VW hI have no idea!
Could the problem be related to the tandem pump or the mixing tube?

Hi,

How do you tell if it's diesel fuel?

If it were water, wouldn't there be this light brown foam or slime?
What could it be besides diesel? icon_question.gif

Hi,

I find this strange: I notice a marking on the oil dipstick that is about 2 cm (approximately 2 liters) higher than usual.
'Am I understanding correctly that you had an oil change 1000 km ago? (Or your car is new, and you've driven 1000 km since buying it.) Now, when you look at the dipstick, you see two 'oil levels': The upper one is 2 cm above the first. Based on your knowledge of oil changes, etc., do you know that 2 cm on the dipstick corresponds to a volume of 2 liters, right?'

If you actually think there are 2 liters of diesel in the engine oil, then open the cap where you normally add oil. Does it smell as strongly of diesel there as it does when the fuel filler neck is open? No? Then it's not diesel! (It's best to have a glass full of diesel next to it for comparison. Sometimes people confuse the smell of warm oil and diesel icon_wink.gif).

What is the oil level? How do you measure the oil level?
Okay: The oil dipstick has three zones where the oil level can be: 1.) The lower zone, which is smooth; 2.) A middle zone, which is ribbed; 3.) An upper zone, which is smooth.
Now, you remove the dipstick, take a verschandeln cloth, wipe the stick from top to bottom once, reinsert it into the opening, wait for 10 seconds, and then remove it again. Then, take a picture with your camera (if you don't have one, borrow one somewhere) and post it here.

@Andre: What else could it be? Oh man, what a question! Water, cow urine, dish soap, rainwater... icon_wink.gif And without some additional information, I can only speculate, which won't help fireTD.

"Hi,"

If we're already talking about something like that...

It should also be noted that the engine should be warm, and it should have been allowed to stand for approximately 5-10 minutes before taking the measurement.

Best regards,

"And could you tell us about your driving habits? Do you only drive very short distances? Usually, when the engine oil is warm, the diesel fuel contained in it should evaporate due to the temperature. So, if that's happening, there must be something seriously wrong with your car."

If two liters of diesel were to mix with 4.5 liters of engine oil, I would definitely avoid driving the vehicle.

Not necessarily.

Absolutely no other ingredients!
Reason: Diesel is an oil, and it mixes completely with the engine oil without any visible separation. Coolant, on the other hand, is the only substance in the engine that can be detected in the oil after a period of inactivity, as it forms a distinct layer.

By the way, PD oil doesn't foam with water (at least not as much). I can't explain why, but in my AXR engine, the water heat exchanger was defective, and there was no evidence of water in the oil (no foam or anything), but the coolant was contaminated with oil. However, upon closer inspection after a longer period of standstill, a clear layer could be seen on the oil dipstick.

When I first worked with the early PD engines (pre-production models in 1997 and 1998), one problem was that there were sometimes hairline cracks in the cylinder head. This is not uncommon with VP engines, and even with minimal cracks, it usually doesn't have any negative effects.
However, with the PD engines, it sometimes happened that fuel located under the pre-compression pressure found its way into the oil circuit.
VW apparently managed to resolve this issue, but your observation aligns perfectly with the experiences we sometimes had back then with those engines on the timing belt test benches.
During the process, engines with seized pistons were towed, and the fuel injection was set to its maximum level.

Hi,

Are there any updates? Otherwise, it's just another thread that hangs in the air and ends without a resolution icon_sad.gif.
