After recovering from the shock, my question is: do all the servo motors share a common power supply, or should they all really be defective?

It looks more like a problem with the control unit or the power supply to me; it would be strange if 3 actuators and a sensor were to conspire to self-destruct together.


Or was there any event, perhaps something that was engineered or caused, that could have triggered the mass die-off? Or was there some kind of 'shortcut' involved?

It wasn't a specific event, but I simply couldn't switch it to defrost mode anymore (I could select it, but nothing happened).

Hi,

In the climate control system of the C4, as well as the B4, this is a known issue.
If you're lucky, it might go away for a while, but eventually, nothing will work at all.

Most often, the motors fail because the carbon brushes wear out. In that case, you can (if you're handy) replace them with brushes from Märklin.

It's also possible that a diverting lever or a control unit output has failed.

If my memory serves me correctly, there's a service manual for the climate control system of the C4 somewhere on www.meckisforum.de.

By the way, installation and removal are a real pleasure, especially for the servo motors that are not accessible from the engine compartment...

Good evening, everyone!

I spent the last two days disassembling the interior of my car to remove the stepper motors behind the center console (V70 and V85). That's a real job for someone who's already "killed" their parents. I went to the Volvo dealership, and they quoted me 170 euros. Now I'm just hoping that was the problem. I can pick up the motors tomorrow and will install them sometime this week, and then I'll report back.

If anyone needs installation and removal instructions, please let me know.

Okay, I'll try to list everything that's important from memory.

Tools: Socket set with 8 sockets, 10 sockets, Torx sockets, and one short socket.
Phillips head screwdriver, two long, thin flathead screwdrivers.
You might need to disconnect the red and blue connectors on the motors.

Remove the glove compartment with its frame and the driver's side footwell storage compartment.

After that, I ended up upside down in the footwell...
Then, disconnect the ventilation pipes on both sides, those that are directed towards...
Windshield display.

Detach the side panels of the center console (only the left side has a screw).
On the right side, it's clipped in behind. And then, only as far as it needs to go.
It's necessary to bend the part backwards to reach it with your hand and perform the required work. But be careful...don't bend it too far (risk of breakage).
A flashlight is very useful.
Looking for something to wedge in there to keep the trim from popping out.

Then you'll see a blue and a red joint linkage on each side.
Loosen the fastening screw (one for each joint) and then remove the joint.

Then I probably followed your instructions, which I found on meckisforum. Thank you very much; it made things much easier, and now I don't even need to read the technical article ).

Unfortunately, I can't provide any photos; I'm still in the Stone Age when it comes to that, as I don't have a digital camera.

No problem... I can take pictures of the two motors in the water tank myself. And I'll have to see about the two inside... whenever I read somewhere that someone is having a problem with them, they're immediately arrested...

Thank you for your excellent description of how to replace the V70 and V85 servo motors. I must say, I actually wanted to remove the center console, but thanks to your instructions, I managed to do it without removing it, and it only took me 3 hours. The servo motors cost me a total of 183 euros. You'll need to spend roughly the same amount on installation. In the winter, the servo motor for the hot air flap (V71) was defective. I managed the replacement without any help. Now, in the summer, the V70 was defective. I replaced both motors at the same time. Now I just need to have the servo motors "learned" and the error memory cleared.

After experiencing the typical error messages and the heating continuing to operate even when "off" in the Climatronic system, as well as (frequently during acceleration on the highway) hearing the sound of the bypass valve opening and closing, the actuator motor was replaced by the factory service department, requiring a complete dashboard removal. However, shortly after this repair, the same errors have reappeared.

The latter is likely related to the installation of a Blaupunkt Casablanca MP 56 and its testing with the ignition on, but without the Climatronic control unit connected.

My questions are now:

"When I start the self-test and the Climatronic is set to 'off', the ventilation turns on, and I hear the test of the actuators within the first 1-2 minutes. Then, nothing else happens, and the fan continues to run. The only options I can select are 'Next/Continue' or 'Back'. Does the self-test indicate when it's finished? How long does it take? I stopped it after about 5 minutes."

2. Are there other reasons for the symptoms described above besides the stepper motor that is indicated as defective?
Is the new stepper motor broken again?

I cleared the error codes and ran the self-test for 2 minutes. Then, I checked the measurement blocks 2-4 and adjusted the settings on the Climatronic (windshield deflector, middle vents, lower vents, recirculation, fan speed, etc.). All the motors are moving, and the displayed values deviate from the specified values by a maximum of one unit. Reading the error codes again did not reveal any new entries.
