Hi,
The title says it all. What does Bosch actually mean by an ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) overhaul?
I assume that a new nozzle is simply attached to the nozzle holder, and then the correct shim is used in the holder to determine the opening pressure. Is that correct?

Hi,
It depends on which nozzles you're referring to. Unfortunately, the nozzles from TDI engines are not that simple to deal with. They are factory-remanufactured with everything they need. The problem with the two-spring injectors is the two-stage injection process. This means you have an opening pressure of 190 bar for Euro2 vehicles and around 220 bar for Euro3 vehicles (specifically for the 1.9-liter engine). The main injection occurs at an opening pressure of over 300 bar. Typically, a Bosch workshop doesn't have the equipment to determine the opening pressure of the second stage. That's why they are factory-remanufactured. To my knowledge, the springs are replaced, the nozzles and needles are new, and everything else related to seals, etc. Of course, the 'shims' for the opening pressure are also replaced.
I also want to mention that recently, only kits with a nozzle and needle are available. However, in my opinion, such a repair is neither good nor bad because the main opening pressure is not changed. Bosch believes that this is acceptable. However, if the nozzles are in such poor condition, then the opening pressure for the second phase is also no longer correct. In my opinion, using these kits is a waste of money.

Hello,
Then I wasn't that wrong. However, I do have doubts about everything Bosch is doing.
whether it's even worth regenerating.
I've seen pictures in the TDI Club of people who have replaced the injectors themselves, by simply clamping the injector holder in a vise and unscrewing the injector. They put a new injector in and it's done .

I recognize these images too. It's certainly one possibility. But, as I said, regarding the opening pressure of the second phase, that's really just an estimate. But everyone can do things their own way...

That's right!
