Hello everyone,
Yesterday, I replaced the transmission on my Golf IV ALH.
Everything went perfectly, no issues. The clutch and transmission seem to be working well.
Unfortunately, the engine hasn't been running well since the modification, for reasons that are unclear. It was working perfectly before.
Here are the following symptoms:
- No boost pressure is being generated, and all the hoses are connected and in good condition.
- There is a howling noise at various speeds.
- The engine is shaking violently, but at approximately 3000 RPM.
- The exhaust smells terribly, it burns your eyes, and it's emitting white smoke.
- he has almost no power.
VAG COM shows no errors.
I'm completely at a loss.
What could it be? Please help me...
Thank you very much! Golf IV - ALH - Erstzulassung 9/99

Hi,
Does it smell like oil or water?
Did you forget to remove a blind plug or cleaning cloth from an opening?
Best regards, Rainer.

While fiddling around to remove the transmission, a cable broke... hopefully it was just a cable from the fuel injector.

For me, it's questionable why no error is being stored, even though no LD (likely referring to a specific diagnostic code or process) is being built. I need to investigate whether the charger is being activated or if it's being interrupted somewhere. If it's being interrupted, that could also explain the smell; it might be injecting more fuel than air into the cylinders. However, the smoke is white . Aktuell:

cleaning cloths in an opening?
Take a look at the intake pipe leading to the turbo, specifically the section between the air filter and the turbo. If you forgot a rag, it's likely located right in front of the turbo. This has happened to me before. 3B5 AJM

Unfortunately, it wasn't a cleaning cloth, but a coaster.
She could have fallen anywhere, but why did she have to fall into this 6cm hole that's almost vertical? How stupid can things actually be ?

Now you know why it's essential to seal all openings during assembly work. Hopefully, the damage wasn't too extensive. 3B5 AJM

Well... the loader is broken, but at least the shovels are still attached. However, the shaft play is so large that it's already scraping against the housing... :-/
Does anyone happen to have a good GT1749VB turbocharger lying around from an ARL engine?
