I'm currently very stressed and unfortunately can't do anything right now, but I'll let you know as soon as I have any news.

Have a great weekend and greetings from Graz.

Peter.

IcI sincerely hope that you can help me with this, especially regarding the price-performance ratio icon_rolleyes.gif.

I suppose there's not much that can be changed about this adapter.

Greetings,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

In my opinion, you get the best value for money by building it yourself. You can find relevant information in the adapter article (and on the forum --> use the search function with the keyword "adapter").

You might end up with similar problems if you buy replacement parts, because you can't really inspect them beforehand.

Hello Ulf!

Zb. COM Port oder die Schnittstelle im Motor STG?? I have some concerns about it; I'd really rather not risk a disastrous repair.

You're welcome.

Peter.

Hi Peter,

Okay, for most parts, you can use something "similar" – except perhaps in Maik's adapter, where the logic IC and the MAX chip are specific components.

I believe Maik is sending his adapter, but I don't know if it will be a finished product or a kit.

Is it possible to damage something if I mess up the wiring? For example, could I damage the COM port or the interface in the engine control unit (ECU)?
I have some concerns about this; I don't want to risk a major repair.

That possibility cannot be ruled out entirely.
As long as any mistakes are made only on the car- or PC side, I don't think anything expensive will break (except possibly the adapter), because both interfaces are, to my knowledge, short-circuit resistant.

Things look different when there are current flows between the car and the computer – in that case, it can potentially become expensive, and one or both interfaces may be damaged.
On the other hand, adapters with galvanic isolation of the circuits (usually achieved through optocouplers) offer the relatively best protection. However, they cannot prevent solder bridges between the computer and car circuits.
Gruß Ulf

Hello Ulf, hello everyone!

I sent an email to Maik, but I haven't received a response for some reason. Does anyone here have contact information for Maik? Maybe I can try reaching out through you.

Thank you very much.

Peter.

Hello!

Also ein super Angebot. Thank you very much.

Hello everyone!

I have now tried all the possibilities icon_confused.gif. Two different notebooks, one with Windows 2000 and one with Windows 98 SE, USB and RS232 connections, various serial cables, etc., etc. The problems are still there, see "community-Motor-Tips-Reparatur/Motor STG gesperrt! (17978) Wie löschen? "

I'm now almost certain that the adapter is quite a makeshift solution. I'm waiting for the adapter from "MAIK" and will then see what happens icon_eek.gif. So that I can finally learn how to use VAG COM. If nothing else works, it's a bit annoying icon_evil.gif.

Greetings, Peter.

The solution!

I received a replacement adapter, and it works quite well. Also, the adapter from Maik is working perfectly. I will now thoroughly test both of them.

Peter.
