Hello,

I'm having a problem with my A4 just in time for the weekend. It's going into a limp mode (like a failsafe mode) when I accelerate, starting around 2500-3000 rpm, and then it starts smoking heavily, white/blue, a short time later. This happens in all gears! Not when idling.

Data: Audi A4 2.5 TDI, manufactured in November 2005, engine codes BDG/HSL, approximately 130,000 km.

'If I always take my foot off the gas after the engine starts to buck and then drive below 2500 rpm, I don't get any errors in the engine control unit (ECU). If I accelerate very slowly, I reach 3000-4500 rpm, and the ESP light starts to flash briefly, and sometimes it stays on permanently after that.' The following error codes will then be present:

Update: Now it's difficult to start, it runs very unevenly when idling, it sputters when you accelerate, and it's producing a lot of smoke. I can't seem to get past 1000 rpm.

Okay, check the timing belts. If everything's okay there, I suspect either the fuel injection pump is faulty or the EGR valve is stuck in the "open" position.

Make sure to check it, just like mserge wrote! Before you disassemble everything, check if there's a clear hose between the fuel line and the ESP unit, and look for any air bubbles.

Sounds like a bunch of hot air.
So, there's air in the fuel lines.
Is this a known issue with the 2.5 V6 TDI engine?
Here's the translation:

"There's a reason for the injection start regulation difference, as it can fluctuate between different regulation ranges when there's air in the diesel fuel."

Have you checked the fuel lines for air bubbles?

Hello,

Thank you for the replies. I unfortunately didn't receive any email notifications, so I'm just reading this now.

There's a transparent diesel line at the pump, and I can't see any air bubbles in it.

Is there a way to check the timing belt (which hasn't been replaced yet) while it's still installed? Does the first error pattern (where the engine starts misfiring abruptly at 2500-3000 rpm and doesn't misfire at idle) even fit the problem?

What is the best way to check if the AGR (Aktivkohlefilter) is functioning correctly?

If there are discrepancies in the injection start timing, I would first check the needle lift adjuster.

I might be able to get a used pump (to borrow for testing), but I've read that the WFS (Waste Heat Recovery System) is integrated into my pump (model number 059 130 106 K).

Can I replace them without having to remove the entire front assembly?

How do I 'teach' the pump to my MSG (Engine Control Module)? (I have a VAG-COM and also the 4-digit MSG PIN).

Well, it's okay, I guess. But you really need to have thin fingers to use it. There's not much to explain, just remove everything that needs to be removed.

Also, regarding your question about whether you can replace them without removing the front panel, I believe I already answered "yes" to that question, right? If you want instructions, you also need to ask a question. icon_wink.gif

The problem was a mechanical defect in the VP44 injection pump; I've now replaced it with a new one.

The car is running smoothly again, but it turns off after 2 seconds. The engine control unit is locked (immobilizer).
Error: 17978 - Motor control unit locked.
P15701 - 35-00 - -

I deactivated the immobilizer in the MSG, but apparently, it's only deactivated temporarily. AI and MSG.
WFS isn't blinking either!

How can I connect the pump (letter K) at the end to my MSG using VAG-COM?
A four-pin motor connector is known.
