VAG-COM communication problem with Audi 2.5 TDI (4B)

Today, at the request of the technician, I connected my VAG-COM (large connector) to an Audi A6 2.5 TDI (4B), manufactured around 1996, using a Bosch service center. My VAG-COM is relatively new.

In the Auto-Scan menu (which reads all error codes), the system requires you to enter the chassis type. We selected "4B," and then several errors appeared, but none related to the engine, even though (according to the mechanic) there are "definitely" some stored there.

When we tried to directly access the "Engine" section from the "Select" menu (where you can also read error codes), the connection failed.

Since the KL version doesn't have a switch yet, you can rule out an incorrect switch position.
I'm not sure why the connection failed. Have you tried multiple times, and perhaps turned the ignition on and off in between, just in case the engine control unit got somehow corrupted?

For professional use in a workshop, a professional-grade system would naturally be the better choice.

What is the engine code letter?
