VCDS: Beginner Questions & Answers

Today, the package finally arrived from Switzerland.

I have the current 2.0 TDI CR engine with 125 kW (CEGA) in my 2011 Octavia RS.

I couldn't find the following in the measurement data blocks:
- Swirl flap angle/setting.
- Coolant temperature sensor 2 (use multiple if needed)
- AGR bypass valve switching position.

It appears there are 3 exhaust temperature sensors.
Before the turbo, before the catalytic converter, before the DPF.
I was surprised that the exhaust temperature before the turbo reached 500°C when starting in the city.
I used to think that a diesel engine only gets hot under full load.

It still stutters during the warm-up.

What's going on here? Nothing at all, or what?

I'm disappointed.

If anyone happens to stumble upon this and decides to answer, please do.
I found a temperature sensor in the engine control unit (ECU) that has no label - perhaps it's the coolant sensor?

I've also noticed that some of the information in the extended coding assistant doesn't quite match, for example, 'Air quality sensor installed' = 0, even though I have one.

Furthermore, I must defend Mr. Stange, who is responsible for the German/English labels.
I find it rather presumptuous to make such superficial remarks about the adequacy of a description for a control unit, especially considering the year of manufacture is 2011, and not even to specify which control unit is being referred to!

But try to put yourself in my shoes.
Following multiple requests in this forum, I was repeatedly assured how great VCDS is.
Then I'll spend 300€ and get a construction project and no answers to simple questions (is the exhaust temperature reasonable?).
Wouldn't you be disappointed?

I meant that I'm not looking for English-German translations, but rather the byte/bit representation of the text or measurement values. For example, the coolant temperature or intake manifold temperature appears multiple times within the extended measurement data.

Perhaps I expected too much, or maybe my model is too exotic or too new, or something like that.

I certainly don't want to offend anyone here.
I will provide the VAG part numbers or the results of the car scan later.

That's because of what the control unit outputs. If it happens 10 times, it will also appear 10 times in the memory word by word data .

but rather the bytes/bits to the texts or measurements.

There are several factors to consider. Not EVERYTHING has been researched for every car. Specifically, not all control units have all of their bits/bytes known. Therefore, not all labels are always 1:1 accurate.

I'm sorry that the 500°C is surprising you. If you reach into a socket, please don't be surprised, as there are 230V present.

If you write that it surprises you, that is not a question, but a statement. In the German language, questions typically end with a question mark.

If you go to the advanced measurement blocks, then search for...
- Intake manifold flap for airflow control.
- Coolant temperature
- Exhaust gas recirculation cooling function.

If you found a temperature reading without a label in the "normal" measurement block, it definitely wasn't measurement block 7, 99, or 100, because everything in those blocks is labeled.
You could ask the developer at VAG what that is and then share your findings with us.

In an alphabetically sorted list, it's usually predictable where "A" will be and that "B" will follow. Consequently, it's also quite predictable where "K," like "coolant temperature," can be found.

To be honest, your posts show that you either have no interest in diagnosing or troubleshooting the car, or you are completely overwhelmed.
In both cases, I unfortunately have to admit that I cannot help you.

Instead, false claims are posted ("construction site" when every control unit has a label in the car scan), "questions" are not phrased as such, and you just engage in gossip.
Constructive criticism is welcome, but venting frustration is not.
