Hi Rainer!

GRA is now working again, and the status bits are being displayed correctly icon_wink.gif.

Best regards from Munich!

Hello Bear,

Quote:
What remains is this annoying error message: "StG defective!".

It's possible that this message will disappear if you replace the EEPROM or repair its contents, but it's not guaranteed.
Unfortunately, it's not really clear why the control unit identifies itself as "faulty." There could be many other reasons for this.

My advice would be to leave everything as it is, as long as the "glow plug" indicator light in the cockpit isn't flashing and the car is running smoothly without any issues.

As a teenager, I once painted my Kreidler Florett in blue metallic paint. It looked great, but it could have had a little more sparkle. Because it didn't glitter enough in the sun, I kept experimenting with the paint and eventually messed up the entire paint job. -> Never change a good running system. icon_wink.gif

I hope you understand what I mean. To fix a "bug" that has no effect whatsoever, except when you ask the control unit how it's doing and it says "Well, I feel broken"... just stick a note on the bottom of the control unit that says "I feel good." That's less risky than taking it out, disassembling it, and messing around with its internals icon_wink.gif.

Best regards, Rainer.

If the checksums fit in flash memory, only the EEPROM needs to be fixed. This can then icon_wink.gif.

Hello everyone and thank you for your replies!

@Rainer: I understand that "never touch a running system" is a good rule to follow, and I generally agree with it. However, I always have this uneasy feeling that the EEPROM or the engine control unit (ECU) might suddenly fail, especially if even just one more bit gets corrupted...
According to Murphy's Law, this will happen at the most inopportune moment, of course. icon_rolleyes.gif

If possible, I would still like to replace the EEPROM. If the problem persists after that, I won't have any other choice but to hope for the best and possibly replace the entire engine control unit (or annoy Wiesel *g*).

@Mulle: Can you tell me what the equivalent type is for the Bosch part number B58253?

Thank you so much again, and sunny greetings from Munich!

Thanks to Wiesel, my VAT system is now running again without the "Error!" message in the error memory icon_thanks.gif.

The data stored in the I²C memory on the back of the main control unit (MStG) was corrupted. It has been replaced with a new version burned by Micha, and the vehicle identification number (AFN) is now working again as if nothing had happened icon_wink.gif.

Once again, many thanks to everyone for the help and especially to our (Diesel) Wiesel! icon_cool.gif
