A3: Error code 01367 "Central locking pump shut-off"

Hi there,

In the error memory of the central locking system for my Audi A3 (manufactured in March 1998), the following code is displayed:

Error code 01367.
'Pump shut-off for central locking.'
35-00--

Has anyone else experienced this before, and could someone possibly explain to me what's going on?
I haven't noticed any malfunctions so far.
And what does '35-00--' mean?

- Insufficient pressure in the pneumatic lines (leak).
- Central vacuum pump failure.

I've also been experiencing this error sporadically for more than a year.
Fehlfunktionen konnte ich dennoch keine feststellen.
Car: Audi A3, manufactured in July 1998.

@Michael: I understand the error to be that after activating the main switch, the pump...
a) either doesn't start up (never observed, always makes a "rrrrrrrr" sound).
b) It starts up, but due to a leak or a faulty pump, not enough vacuum is generated for it to shut off. However, I have never been able to detect an excessively long "rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" sound.

Since the error occurs sporadically and there have been periods of several months without it happening, I'm just going to wait and see.

"Air leaks are a common problem with the pneumatic suspension system. Over time, the air lines (especially at the connectors) can become leaky. This causes the pump to take longer to complete each cycle. If a certain amount of time is exceeded, this error will occur. I've experienced this issue on an A4 Avant MJ '97 and an A3 MJ '00. It's not a pleasant job to check and repair the system."

What still surprises me is:

The error isn't constant; I'm just doing nothing and waiting for the central ventilation system to stop working.

What about the trunk lid? Does it have a vacuum hose that's sensitive to kinks running to the lock, or a cable with its own pump?
Könnte mir vorstellen, daß bei der Kabeldurchführung/Schlauchdurchführung zur Klappe was gebrochen ist. Das war beim letzten 2er Golf ne Dauerkrankheit.

In our MJ models, the tailgate is also operated via a pneumatic line.
The damage on the A3 was to the driver's door (the rubber grommet was torn), and on the A4, it was to the rear right door (also with a torn grommet).
