ABS Hydraulic Replacement: A3 Always Has Air

I installed a used ABS hydraulic unit in an A3 (year 2009), but I can't seem to bleed the air out of the system.

First, bleed the air using the air vent device: vo.li, vo.re, hi.li, hi.re.
Then try the old method once, then adjust the basic settings, then try both wheels on an axle at the same time, but don't combine this with applying pressure while the engine is running.

Does anyone have a detailed guide on how to perform the basic settings using VCDS, as it always seems to only refer to the front axle?

Hold the pedal down, the ABS pump will activate. After turning off the pump, open the bleed valves on the front calipers, then close them. Hold the pedal down again. The pump will activate, then release the pedal. Depress the pedal 10 times with the bleed valves closed, and it should start working again. Hold the pedal down, and the pump will activate for 10 seconds.

I hope I remembered correctly now.

When bleeding the system using a vacuum pump (pressure method), the pressure must not exceed 1 bar; otherwise, the valve block cannot be properly bled.

If all else fails, you can still manually vent the system with two people.

- Close all bleed valves... Pump the brake pedal to build pressure, hold the pedal down, and open the bleed valve until the pedal drops approximately 75%. Close the bleed valve, release the pedal, and repeat the process as many times as necessary. This ensures that fluid is forced from the reservoir into the system, rather than air being sucked back through the bleed valve during the release process, which can sometimes happen.

Of course, this applies to all four wheels.

Then, using a vacuum pump and additional pumps. However, the air hasn't been removed yet.

To my knowledge, there is text about this in the relevant window in VCDS. How to access the corresponding basic settings depends on the ABS/ESP control unit.

I've now installed a third used ABS unit, and the pressure point still isn't what it should be.
"In the second case, the error was a basic setting in the error memory. I then tried to adjust the intake and separation valves, but I got stuck when adjusting the separation valves, and the error memory then displayed an ABS operation error."

Now, with the third one, the control unit is working correctly, but there's no proper engagement point.

We started with a vacuum pump and two people, one at the front and one at the back, but no air is coming out anymore, but the bleeding point is still terrible.
Either there's another problem (with the master cylinder), or it's really just an air bubble that I can't get rid of.
Why would a new hydraulic unit arrive pre-filled and bled?

Try bleeding the lines at the ABS unit first, and then at the wheel brake cylinders. I had a similar issue once with a Golf 4, and that helped.

I've already tried that.
I left the lines that run from the ABS module to the wheel cylinders disconnected and waited until fluid stopped leaking out of them.
