If you don't care about fuel efficiency and also value driving performance, then take a look at the factory specifications for the AFN, ABF (150 hp 16v as a comparison to the 1.8T, which is similar), and something else.

Regarding cost-effectiveness: You need to drive a diesel car for quite a few kilometers each year for it to be worth it, considering the higher taxes, insurance costs, and maintenance expenses (potentially).

Regarding performance:

0-100 km/h / Top speed.

GTI TDI (AFN 110 hp) - 10.8 seconds, 193 km/h.
GTI, 115 horsepower, 10.4 seconds, 196 [units - likely km/h or mph].
GTI 16V, 150 horsepower, 8.7 seconds (0-100 km/h), 220 km/h (top speed).

The AFN engine with a chip tuning upgrade of approximately 140 horsepower will likely achieve a 0-60 mph time of around 9 to 9.5 seconds.

Insurance is more expensive.
The oil is more expensive and there's more of it needed compared to the 4-cylinder engine.
Replacing the timing belt is expensive.

One should be clear about that.

And you should be aware that you will fill up the AFN's fuel tank for about €40 each time, and the 1.8 T for about €50...

And you are GUARANTEED to drive 30% more kilometers with a full tank of AFN fuel.

I'm talking about a normal to very fast driving style. I've driven both cars and also filled up the gas tanks for both.

If you don't care about economy and practicality, then buy the 1.8 T. - oh yeah: The AFN is a 1.9 T .

P.S. - Just think about the renovation costs... it's *much* more than you think. Trust me. I personally went bankrupt doing a renovation.

Okay, so the conversion is being done by factory workers, but they're not just doing standard engine modifications; they're completely overhauling it, including converting it to a 1.8T engine.
Now I'm back at the beginning...
