Since I wasn't sure if the zero position was correctly aligned with the transmission and sensor, I wanted to recalibrate the sensor.

I tried to recalibrate the sensor in the VCDS menu under "Basic Settings."
I'm not sure if that worked the way it was supposed to.
First of all, the initial calibration process only takes fractions of a second. Also, the new learned values don't seem reasonable to me.

After that, the error message reappears even when he tries to reactivate the start-stop system (with the brake pedal pressed firmly and the transmission in neutral).

To help me assist you better, it would be helpful if you could provide a complete scan. (Including any relevant financial information would also be appreciated.)

Unfortunately, I can't determine which type of transmission is installed in your vehicle. Since the adjustments vary for each type of transmission, I cannot definitively answer your question here.

You are describing a recent gearbox change!

For a 09G transmission, for example, after replacing the multifunction switch, it needs to be adjusted using the special tool T10173. Only after that can the adjustments be made using VCDS.

Regarding the software status, I can't provide any further information at the moment other than what's available here. Where can I find the requested status information?

The transmission was replaced by an independent workshop because the clutch was defective (the rivets were broken), and the transmission was gradually damaged as a result. Unfortunately, I cannot determine whether the donor is elderly.
It's a manual 6-speed transmission (TDI 103kW).

The basic setting, or the position of the gear lever for the neutral position, is adjusted mechanically.

For this, you will need the special tool T10027A or a comparable mandrel.

The G701 sensor (02T 906 207 D) is located directly on the transmission, is fastened with an M6 screw, and costs approximately 30 euros.

I only see sporadic errors in your error logs, and occasionally a short circuit to the positive voltage here and there. And you mentioned that the start/stop function isn't working.

When reading the error memory, the starting voltage was only 12.4 volts !! (60-70% state of charge). Irreversible sulfation begins below 70%.

The vehicle's intentional deactivation of the start/stop function can have many reasons besides being in neutral; one definite cause is a poorly charged or defective battery. And, of course, error entries in the engine control unit.


I would like the battery / or alternatively, Check the voltage as Andy mentioned, and also check/verschandeln the connection at the neutral switch, and if necessary, replace it.

Short circuits to the positive terminal can be caused by corroded fuses, poor connections, broken cables, or a stuck relay (type 30).

Does the start/stop function work intermittently or not at all?

You could proceed as follows:

Clear errors in the engine control unit and ensure operating conditions for start/stop (operating temperatures, etc.).

Does the start/stop system work, even if only temporarily, until the error (neutral position sensor) reappears? The problem likely lies with the sensor itself.

Does the start/stop function also not work even when the error memory is cleared and empty? First, you need to rule out the numerous other reasons why the start/stop function might be disabled. Primarily battery/generator.

You can read the values for the starter battery from the control unit. Please double-check this, as you need an AGM battery (68 Ah / 380 A), and those are not exactly cheap.

How old is the battery? 12.4 volts is quite low for an AGM battery. Based on my experience, they are definitely a start/stop system inhibitor (and often defective) when the voltage is below 12.6 volts.

When charging the battery, please use a charger suitable for AGM batteries.

The causes of almost all other errors (e.g., related to the speaker) have already been fixed. These errors no longer appear in the log. Only the emergency horn (IRÜ) and the aforementioned transmitter remain.


Unfortunately, the error keeps reappearing.
There must be something wrong with the sensor or the wiring.
Unfortunately, I can't check the connector today because the vehicle was only here for a short time. Perhaps the search will resume in a few weeks.

The St/St function is permanently malfunctioning and throws an error as soon as the first opportunity for activation arises.

The battery is definitely a factor; it's not new anymore.
However, the vehicle starts reliably well, even this winter with the extremely low temperatures, without any problems.

That would be my initial approach. If the battery management system detects, based on various parameters, that the battery is falling below certain thresholds, the start/stop function will be deactivated.

You might have the option of temporarily using a reliable replacement battery as a first test, before buying a battery based on suspicion.
