Air Conditioning Compressor: Storage After Removal?

I removed a Kimak compressor from a 'slaughter festival' (likely referring to a dismantling or salvage event) and want to set it aside for future use.
Do I need to seal the connections if I'm going to leave it unused for a longer period?

I would answer that with a resounding 'Yes!'
But oxidation also involves water or moisture, and I didn't want to put the compressor in the garden.
Can I conclude that sealing alone is not sufficient and that I also need to charge the compressor with refrigerant?

In our climate, the relative humidity of the air is usually around 50%.
Furthermore, the oil used in the compressor has the unfortunate property of readily attracting water; it is hygroscopic, like brake fluid.

Ideally, a treatment with a suitable anti-corrosion oil would be best -> consult with a climate specialist.

Definitely make sure to seal the connections properly.

Why don't we live in Italy? I saw a 200D/8 there that didn't even have underbody protection, and there wasn't a trace of rust on it!

Hi,

At the university, we operated some compressor and turbine test benches with CFCs due to the reduced speed of sound. The result was an extraordinary tendency for corrosion in pipes and components. If the compressor material is not inherently corrosion-resistant, I would definitely do something about it using a suitable oil.

Blow out with compressed air, fill with nitrogen, and seal the connections (with rubber stoppers or other means).
