Hi,

I had the following issue with my 2.7l TDI (engine code BPP) today:

Extremely stop-and-go traffic for about 1 hour, then the DPF regeneration light came on.
No regeneration cycle possible due to continuous Stop-And-Go. After some time (10 min?), the light turned off again. After another 5 minutes, the warning light started to blink. After another 10(?) minutes, the DPF light also turned on. Still in Stop-And-Go mode. The car was clearly in emergency mode, the acceleration was like "nuts in a sack". After another 5 minutes, I arrived at my destination and parked the car for 6 hours. When I started it up for the return journey, all the warning lights turned off after the normal short flash at startup. No problems during the return journey (5 min in town, 15 min on highway (90 km/h constant), 5 min in town).

Error 1 has been there for a long time, and it probably has nothing to do with the new problem.

Block 104 successfully read out:

16:26:03 Block 104: Particle Filter
0.36 Ø Glass
19.5 Russian Mass (calculated)
17.5 Russian Mass (measured)
310 km Distance since last regeneration

I think the values are okay. Block 102 might still be useful, but I can't evaluate it:

16:27:11 Block 102: Exhaust Gas Aftertreatment
429.2°C Exhaust Gas Temperature after Catalytic Converter
318.6°C Exhaust Gas Temperature before Particulate Filter
7 mbar Pressure Difference Particle Filter
14 mbar Offset Pressure Difference Particle filter

Re-read Block 104

16:27:41 Block 104: Particle Filter
0.36 Ø Glass
20.0 Russian Mass (calculated)
13.0 Russian Mass (measured)
310 km Distance since last regeneration

The engine may have run for about 1 minute while stationary between the first and second time block 104 was read. However, the values for 104.2 and 104.3 are significantly different.

Does anyone have an explanation for this behavior and the overall error pattern? What is wrong here, and what should I be aware of?

Best regards,
had

Hello,

It seems that several unfavorable factors have converged here. In addition to the poor driving conditions, it appears that the differential pressure sensor is malfunctioning. If the 7 mbar reading is taken with the engine off, it is likely that the sensor is faulty, as the differential pressure should be 0 mbar without the engine running.
Please check and read the topic:

Otherwise, just observe and continue.

The differential pressure measurement from the log above was generated while the engine was running. Just before, I made another measurement with the engine running, where the differential pressure was 0.

16:26:19 Block 102: Exhaust gas aftertreatment
197.2°C Exhaust gas temperature after the pre-catalyst
247.8°C Exhaust Gas Temperature before Particulate Filter
0 mbar Differential Pressure Particle Filter
14 mbar Offset Pressure Difference Particle filter

I would definitely replace the differential pressure sensor, especially since it's already in the fault memory.

And: When the engine is at a lower temperature, check the values of the various temperature sensors for plausibility.
