After 7 years, you can't expect much, but this problem was known back then and affected all 188 blocks before 2001, just a heads-up.

Can you provide more details about this issue with Block's? Are there "lunkers" embedded in the concrete?

Today, the matter has been resolved.
After a lengthy back-and-forth between the lawyers, the dealer's insurance company has agreed to cover 50% of the damages. Thank you to everyone who contributed to resolving this issue.

Most likely, the lower rear screw wasn't tightened because it's the most difficult to access.

What exactly does "not tightened" mean?
I gradually tightened the 3 screws, alternating between them; that is, I didn't tighten one screw completely and then move on to the next, but rather tightened each screw a little bit at a time, not tightening one screw completely before moving on to the next.
Is there any objection to that?
Best regards,
Okay, please provide the German text you would like me to translate.

Well, this screw is in such an awkward position that you can only tighten it from above with the engine raised, or afterwards only from below. This can sometimes be forgotten in haste, especially if the intercooler piping is already installed (it's happened to me before, luckily I noticed it). A loose or even missing lower screw would be a logical explanation for the breakage of the upper bracket, which is actually the least stressed part when the screws are properly tightened. 3B5 AJM

Okay, I just had my timing belt replaced. Since I don't have a lot of experience working on cars, I wanted to ask (maybe on behalf of everyone who's wondering) what exactly "tightening" means in this context.

That's exactly what I wanted to hear, so I must have done it right.
Thank you, BM.

As I learned today, this Volkswagen dealership no longer exists; it ceased operations on December 31, 2007.
