update: I had it done - by a mechanic of my choice. The problem with the workshops and the 'press-out' tool (like in that YouTube video that was floating around somewhere) was that they were all afraid that it would be too tight and take longer than expected because the tool would fail. So, their answer was: it can take 1 hour, but it could also take 4 hours - so the price was anywhere between 65 and 300. - just for the replacement.
The mechanic didn't have any tools and it actually took a long time to remove them - he was doing it for the first time on a Golf 4. The installation took 8 minutes. I just got some good tips here, thanks. For next time...
but - it was worth it - the problem is gone.
