Shorten the connecting rods. If you have too little boost pressure and it's producing black smoke, and your AGR valve is disconnected, then you probably have a leak in your charge air system.

@Jussi Schneider
Ventomann has a 1Z engine, so it doesn't have a VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) system and therefore no VTG linkage. You can't increase the boost pressure with it either; it's regulated by the SG (wastegate). The response might change, but Ulf knows more about that.
@Ventomann:
Have you ever considered checking the mass airflow sensor (MAF)? You can have it tested during a diagnostic run, even if it doesn't seem to fit the observed symptoms.

If you adjust the tension of the rod tightly enough, the boost pressure increases. It's a bit crude, but it's the cheapest solution. It can also work in reverse. In an emergency situation, if there is too much boost pressure, loosen the rod. There's a cheap device at Heil und Hoffmann in Frankfurt to test the LLM (Low-Level Measurement). But if it's producing black smoke, it's getting enough fuel. Measure your boost pressure finally icon_rolleyes.gif.

Hi.
You can achieve a permanently higher boost pressure (with a functioning overall system) by shortening the rod, but only when you start to exceed the normal operating range.
That means it will be a delicate balancing act bordering on intentionally introducing faults, which, in my opinion, is not a truly desirable way to solve the problem.

Do you have more detailed information about the mentioned LMM tester (principle of operation, prices, links, etc.)?

As far as I know, the 1Z has a linkage for the wastegate. The engine control unit (ECU) can only control the boost pressure based on what it receives from the turbocharger. If the linkage is tight enough, it increases the boost pressure. The tricky part is reaching the maximum operating limit of the ECU. That was just in response to Ventomann's question; I've always used high-quality (expensive) chips. My old Audi 80 (136 hp with chip) was sold to a courier driver with a chip installed. It now has over 423,000 kilometers on it, using only one engine, transmission, exhaust system, and clutch. Best regards, Jussi.

The LMM tester only works with Pierburg brand mass airflow sensors (i.e., most of the 90 hp models). It's plugged in between the connector and the MAF sensor, like a Power Booster. You then have two cable outputs where you can measure the voltage at idle, when accelerating, and under load. (The price back then was about 38 DM.) At idle, it was probably around 1.2 volts, and at full throttle, 3.5 volts. @Ulf, if you want to build one yourself or want to run a complete test curve, I'd be happy to lend it to you for a week. Best regards, Jussi.

Here's the translation:

'By the way, Heil und Hoffmann in Frankfurt is a Pierburg direct dealer and sells genuine Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensors at half price. Phone number: 06109/31070. Normally, they only sell to dealers.'

*sniffles*

Hi,

I've been soldering a decoupled connector for the MAF sensor output onto my MAF sensor wiring harness for quite some time, using resistors and a broadband choke... all for about 10 cents worth of materials.
"If needed, I can run a measuring cable all the way to the passenger seat; I usually connect the ground wire to the cigarette lighter and that's it."

I thought it was more likely a type of blower with power supply for the mass flow meter, along with calibration tables for different types of mass flow meters, essentially a small test setup.

Hi.

Kotau? Oh, it really didn't need that much... a surprised "wow, brilliant" would have sufficed icon_lol.gif.
