Not from the right (passenger side)? Hmm, okay, then it probably isn't that either.
Do you think 450ml is a lot for 20,000 km (not 2,000 km!)? I think that's very little! I haven't driven a car yet that consumes this little oil.
I'm already relieved that my old loader was actually still in perfect condition, so at least my driving style wasn't wrong!
Let's see what else they find on the topic of noise! icon_cool.gif And thank you very much for your answers!

By the way, what brand of turbocharger does the AMF actually use?

Okay, Joohn, I absolutely agree with you. I also find that 450ml of oil consumption over 20,000 km is perfectly acceptable and not a problem at all. However, some oil consumption should even be expected, as the turbocharger is never 100% oil-tight. Therefore, a VW workshop should not replace a turbocharger just because it's a little oily. They should have noticed the play beforehand; they could have checked their own internal documentation if necessary. Well, as long as it doesn't cost you anything, it can't hurt to try, you know? You have to look at it from that perspective.

Okay, I actually use less oil with the 2 AMF units I already have. Of course, that's a very small amount compared to other engines.

The turbocharger is a Garrett from the 15-series.

Regards,

Olaf.

@Mauricio
I've also read about that in another forum. But no personal experience.

Regarding the LiMa (likely referring to a specific topic or event), here's some more information:
I was somehow remembering it wrong; the air mass flow sensor is also located on the right side in AMF vehicles... although not necessarily that far to the right that you would seriously believe the noise is coming from the right side (near the wheel arch)... but who knows...

Regards,

Olaf.

Good evening!

To Mauritius:
So, I followed your advice and went to the workshop this morning. The mechanics mildly chuckled at me, but, lo and behold, this evening I was told that all the parts have been ordered to solve the problem you described! icon_biggrin.gif Apparently, someone had already thought it might be that! (yes, yes, sure).
So, my car is going to the workshop again next Thursday, for the umpteenth time, where they will replace this shock absorber. I HOPE this fixes it, because otherwise, there's a lot of confusion! (They would even be willing to install a new ENGINE for me!!! But I really don't want that.)

The tension is building! icon_confused.gif
I was just at the workshop to confirm that they would replace the vibration damper between the turbo and the catalytic converter on Thursday, and they told me that they had ordered a new catalytic converter to replace the old one! I hope they know what they're doing, because it's their last chance.
If I pick up the car on Thursday evening and the noise is still there, I will sell the car, even though I'm sorry to do so. However, I wouldn't even know what kind of car I should buy.

I think it's unwise to sell a car because of something as trivial as that. The car itself isn't to blame for the incompetence of the workshop.
Besides, it's not a Bentley, so what do you expect from a VW with a 3-cylinder diesel engine? Son's car is not completely quiet.
I would think about it some more and then act carefully. A newly purchased car, bought on a whim, will likely have other problems or drawbacks.

Regards,

Olaf.

Small items? They wanted to install a new engine for me! icon_wink.gif
I am well aware that this is not a €100,000 car, but it should at least run normally and without issues! This isn't the first problem my Polo has had; although, it hasn't been particularly severe so far. I would still like to continue driving the car, but either someone needs to tell me that the noise is just a cosmetic issue, or they need to fix it. I noticed again today how noticeable the noise is. It shouldn't be like that. And I'm also aware that this engine isn't exactly a smooth operator!
Let's wait until Thursday and see, maybe they'll manage to do it this time... with a little help!

Hi,

You wrote that you haven't heard that noise in other cars of the same type. So, after x unsuccessful repair attempts, you can insist on a "replacement" – they should give you a car that doesn't have this problem. You don't have to tolerate an unlimited number of attempts...

Perhaps you should use the word "transformation" there, hoping that it will resonate with them more strongly.

Best regards,

Jan.

"Know-it-all mode ON > Conversion has not existed since the reform of contract law! <Know-it-all mode OFF"

You are allowed two attempts to correct the issue, after which you can withdraw. Unfortunately, the kilometers driven will still be added to your total.

Regards,

Olaf.

@ Olaf... I think three times... I had to give my SIN's phone away three times before I got rid of it.

To the best of my knowledge, one is not obligated to participate in that (even though it is common).

Perhaps someone who knows for sure will write to us, but I'm aware of 3 recalls, although I can't provide any proof.
