Okay, here's the translation:

'Exactly!' The best option is the 'Dampf Ente' steamer, personally praised by Harry Weinfurth himself, from the teleshop for 40,- (hardware store: 15,-). icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

Edit: No, I don't watch shopping channels, and no, I don't have a 'Dampf Ente' either.

In some cases of the Golf 2, water would leak into the car through the lower corners of the windshield. The sheet metal of the bodywork was often already rusted in those areas. You can't see it because the rubber seal is covering it.
You usually only notice it when there's also moisture behind the fuse box.

Hehe.

I think I found the hole.

I just came from the car wash.

Thanks to my current Ultra-Ulf equipment (bare floor), I was immediately able to locate a small leak that was coming out from behind the fuse box, through the insulation.

The sunroof hose is dry.

So, I took a peek inside the water tank to see what's floating around in there.

The procedure for releasing the hood latch.

Inside, everything was wiped dry, and then water was deliberately added to that rubber nozzle in the water reservoir, and lo and behold, water started pouring into the footwell.

This also fits well with the fact that I had a front-end collision a year ago, which involved some work on the cable. It's too cold and dark now, but I think it slipped out of its socket in the metal.

By the way, it's incredibly clever to let the train shoot straight up vertically out of the water tower – there's no more unfavorable position or angle!

Sure, I found it:

The rubber grommet in the water tank penetration of the unlocking mechanism had popped out.

The thing is cleverly placed in the absolute "flood zone" - water *always* flows through there!
I already ordered a new toilet seat just in case, but now I've reattached the old one after cleaning everything.

Interestingly, this part is obviously integrated very early in the production process. It is glued in place with body adhesive and the final coat of paint.
Or maybe these are remnants of a previous repair, and I only later managed to remove the nozzle.

It's ridiculous that it holds better on the cable than in that hole in the bodywork!

PS: I pulled up the tulle for the photo – it was covering the hole, so it wasn't easy to see that it was loose.

Hello,

At this point, the question arises as to how many opening cycles the hood is designed to withstand. Unlike, for example, the driver's door, the development geniuses at VAG may fundamentally assume 'retired woman' driver profiles, where the hood is only opened for service appointments. Consequently, the 'cap' may detach after 200 opening cycles.
The 'tinkerers,' 'DIY enthusiasts,' and 'cleanroom fetishists' might not have been considered.

Joke mode:
Please provide the German text you would like me to translate into English.
Trost: In the GTI, and the other short gasoline-powered models, the 'Gummituelle Advanced' was introduced (no photos were taken), because it was rightly assumed that the car would replace the Manta, which it undoubtedly does. People who live in rural areas know what I'm talking about icon_rolleyes.gif. This clientele tends to leave the hood icon_wink.gif open at every parking spot.
Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English.
Joke mode off:

I'm sorry, but this part of the mechanism is not supposed to move at all.
If (as Martin mentioned) the repair wasn't done properly and this seal wasn't installed correctly, water will leak in.
It is absolutely impossible for this poetry to become "independent" over time.

Hello,

My statements are not always meant to be taken one hundred percent seriously. If I happen to get carried away and say something inappropriate, please forgive me and I will refrain from doing so in the future.

It's certainly a valid consideration that certain components of a vehicle don't necessarily have to be designed to withstand eccentric loads.

Best regards,

Hi,
The grommet doesn't fail on its own, but in a similar construction in the Passat 32B, it could also fail at a young age of 8 years, even without external, manual influences. In such cases, the upper part of the grommet, where the cable passes through, would develop cracks, resulting in the same effect. It's therefore not impossible that this was designed as a weak point (especially in the post-Lopez era).

Regards,
Olli.
