Golf IV TDI: Engine Stalls After 100m

Hello everyone!
My Golf IV TDI, 81 kW, 43,000 km, manufactured in 1999, sometimes fails to start.
'It mainly happens right after a cold start. The vehicle has little power when starting, and after about 100 meters (always at the same point), it either stalls or only runs on 3 cylinders. After several restarts, during which it doesn't rev above 1000 RPM and vibrates violently, it slowly recovers and can be driven with normal power. There is no black smoke at any point. This issue occurs about 2 times a month (only during cold starts), and in between, it's mostly drivable, except for a strong jerking and roaring when accelerating in 5th gear, starting around 2500 RPM, and a slight hesitation in the mid-RPM range in every gear.'
as well as sometimes a strange clicking sound from the relay in the control unit (nothing to do with the turn signals!).
Chip tuning (no power box).
Error memory: No error detected.
AGR disabled for testing purposes, nothing helped.
Has anyone else experienced a similar problem, or can anyone offer me some advice?

It's incredible what TDIs can "come up with."

To investigate the cold start problem, I believe that a diagnostic test drive (or several) using VAGCOM would be the best approach.
Unfortunately, the problem doesn't occur in a predictable way.

The jerking and thumping could, in my opinion, be caused by relay 109 or the NBF. Have you checked those already?

We've already performed a test run using VAGCOM, and everything is okay.
I will definitely replace relay 109.
I'll get back to you if it helps.

Hi Rudi,

If the cold start problem occurs again (without using VAGCOM), have the error memory read out as soon as possible. Perhaps a clue can be found then.
Because 50 engine starts later, the entries are automatically deleted unless the same problem occurs again .
