Okay, so it's happened to me too.
After the 'harsh' winter storms and the supposedly very cold winter, I'm now hearing some rather heavenly noises coming from my front axle.
I initially thought it might be a faulty shock absorber or salt on the tire treads, but that's not the case.

Since my 4B is equipped with Xenon headlights, there are axle sensors located on the axles. It's hard to believe, but it's true: these small, dirty things make a noise like a faulty shock absorber.
So, you should probably encounter this issue as well: First, check the wheel speed sensors. A little WD40 might provide a quick, but temporary, fix. However, a new wheel speed sensor will likely need to be installed in the near future.

Best regards,
Basti.

And so far, is it quiet, or is there still occasional trouble?

So far, everything is quiet, but I'll have to wait until the weather gets drier again. However, I will lubricate the joint during the next tire change.

And that is just a ball joint, and you can 'easily' take it apart? That would certainly be a good thing icon_lol.gif.

.

I didn't disassemble it; I just applied silicone (which creeps everywhere) and moved it back and forth.
It's a rubber composite part.
