Renault Kangoo Crankshaft: Problems & Solutions

Hello.

I need to fix the following damage, so I would appreciate some advice.

Okay, the vehicle is a Renault Kangoo, 1.9 Dci 4x4, manufactured in 2003.
During the ride, the flywheel detached (apparently due to 7 screws coming loose). Consequently, all the screws broke off (the broken pieces are still stuck in the crankshaft), and furthermore, the transmission was destroyed (the transmission housing exploded).
Okay, so what do you think about that now????? I don't know if Renault has had problems with this before, but according to a colleague who works at Renault, he told me that he has experienced this before (i.e., the flywheel screws coming loose). But with the warranty, it's over anyway, so that's why I started the repair myself. I got a used transmission with 700 km on it, and it was quite cheap. Now I just hope that the crankshaft itself hasn't been damaged?? What do you think about that?

Nothing! It depends on the damage. If the crankshaft (KW) appears to be in good condition, check the flywheel and measure the roundness. It's important to note that the measurement can be distorted by the axial play of the crankshaft. You would need to apply axial pressure to the crankshaft so that it rests against the thrust washers. If it is visibly damaged, consult a motor specialist or replace it.
OT: Das erinnert mich stark an den ersten Schaden (KW Ritzel vom AAZ), bei dem ich die KW mit Feile, Schleifköpfen, Tuschierfarbe und Messuhr (1/100mm Tolleranz) planen musste, weil es noch kein entsprechendes Werkzeug dafür gab . OT: The end.

Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck with these vehicles! I tried to start it today, but the engine didn't sound right. I then checked the timing and discovered that it was off by about 3 teeth!!! This means that the valves or something else is damaged. If I had known beforehand that the damage could be so extensive, all because of a flywheel coming loose (excluding the bell housing, of course), I would have stayed away from it. Now, I can get an AT engine for €1500. I'll probably go with that option, because the repair and the parts would likely be even more expensive, and then I'd have another new engine with only 700 km on it, practically brand new.
What do you think about that?

You should do that right away, because 1500€ isn't exactly a fortune for an engine. And frankly, when I read the article, I already suspected something like that, because if the engine breaks the transmission, there's likely to be a problem with the timing belt as well.

If there are three teeth involved, I would first take a closer look to see if anything is actually broken, although, I agree with you, the chances are high. But checking doesn't cost anything...

"I received the new engine today; it's a real bargain! This morning, I disassembled the old one, and my fears were confirmed. Four valves are damaged. The piston also has significant damage. I'll be transferring all the components from the old engine (wiring harness, alternator, transmission, etc.) tomorrow, and I'll keep you updated."

Okay, so here are the fewest Renault mechanics. There are probably also forums out there. Otherwise, you could consult the "Do-it-yourself" books; at least they can give you a general idea of how to achieve your goal.

My father also has a similar box, also 4x4, but with a gasoline engine. We test drove the dCI, and based on my experience with the ASV, it was a complete disaster. 80 horsepower from a 1.9 liter engine, no intercooler, no noticeable torque. Some Renault dealers apparently tune them for sale with some software from the Laguna... Overall, there's unfortunately some truth to "F.B."'s statement... the car rattles and creaks like nothing, and it's been to the workshop several times already (including multiple times where it broke down due to ignition problems). The only good thing is the 4x4, even though it increases fuel consumption to 10+ liters with the 1.6 gasoline engine (okay... this thing also has a considerable surface area), but that's added by Nissan .
