'Since I had to replace my flywheel due to a major clutch problem, and the speed sensor is mounted there, I'm now having trouble finding the exact position for it. Bosch says it doesn't matter where the sensor is located along the radius of the flywheel, but I don't believe that. I've already tried several positions, but the engine smokes like a fog machine and barely responds to the throttle. When the engine is at TDC (Top Dead Center), and you look through the hole for the sensor, where is the next marking located?'

Is the toothed wheel that the sensor reads evenly spaced (only speed), or are there also different gaps or tooth spacings that allow for position information? Gruß Christian

The markings on the flywheel are all the same. The spacing is also the same. I read a report in this forum from someone else who had the same problem, and they mentioned two different sensors: one for the automatic system and one for the switch.
Could it be that the markings on the automatic device are significantly smaller? Previously, the markings on the self-made flywheel were made from 6 mm steel pins.
'It used to be that the original flywheel had notches that were a certain size. Now I have the original flywheel, and it has 18mm notches.'
Best, Mike.

Okay, I've done some research, and there are gaps in the data for automatic transmissions when using shift-position sensors in manual transmissions. This results in an inverted signal. To correct this, the sender for manual and automatic transmissions needs to be wired in reverse, meaning that contacts 2 and 3 are swapped; these are the middle contact and the one on the rounded side of the connector. The position isn't arbitrary; the resolution is so coarse that only the most plausible value (e.g., by comparing it to the rotational angle sensor of the VP44) is likely to be accepted as the top dead center (TDC) position.
