Hello diesel mechanics!
Today, I replaced the front brake pads on both sides of a Corsa C. I had also ordered new, internally ventilated brake discs for this purpose. However, when installing them today, the new discs didn't fit (despite the part number I provided). The old brake discs are from the year 2000, and in my opinion, they are still usable except for some light to moderate scratches on the outside of the right side caused by the worn-out pads.
What do you think about this? New brake pads and a brake disc on one side that has been damaged by corrosion. Can I continue driving with this? The strength of the metal is almost like new.
I would appreciate a response.
Olli.

It's best to take a picture of it. If it's not too severe and the glass isn't cracked, I wouldn't worry about it. MfG. Michael

Hi Ollie, if the discs don't go below the minimum thickness with the new pads...
or, to put it another way, it's not that when the disc wears down to its minimum thickness, the new set of brake pads will still have a decent amount of material left.
Normally, the undersize should be approximately 2-3 mm less than the disc thickness.
Brake discs need to be re-surfaced properly.
Ideally, deburr the edges and ensure good braking performance. However, brake frequently but briefly and with force – avoid overheating and allow for long cooling periods.
Then it should work again like before. Gruß, der Teileklaus

Hello.
Thank you for the quick responses. I will check the brake disc and pads within the next 1-2 weeks.
Best regards.
Olli.

Only use it on high-quality products where the cost is justified.
Die bekommst du ja dafür fast neu. At least one.
Furthermore, it's even faster at achieving the undersize dimension of 2 x 0.5 mm; it could potentially be even less.
Then I'd rather sand it myself (yes, I know you can't just get something like that done easily). Gruß, der Teileklaus

I agree. I don't think it's worth the effort to re-manufacture a brake disc for a Corsa. MfG. Michael

Even if you have a lathe at home and can machine the part yourself, you'll regret doing it because Corsa brake discs are really cheap and readily available in the spare parts trade, and they are new.
