Hi,
Perhaps not based on the physical dimensions, but could someone post a picture of the engine bay from the 160 hp version? ULF, how about you? We have one with the ATD engine, let's see if we can spot any differences.
Thank you.

Is it possible to retrofit xenon headlights to a Cupra?

The key issue with the 6L Cupra is the front mount intercooler (FMIC)... its piping obstructs the headlight washer... that's why only the standard Ibiza and the FR model are available with xenon headlights.

Ah, there's a reason why it's not working like that.

Okay, I understand. Please provide the text you would like me to translate from German to English.

I interpreted that as the reason for your post, that you wanted to know why it doesn't work with the Cupra.

By the way, this is only the case with the 6L Cupra; the new Ibiza 6J Cupra can be ordered with xenon headlights again.

As far as I know, some resourceful enthusiasts have managed to solve this problem on the 6L model, either by retrofitting a rear stabilizer bar (RSB) or by modifying the intercooler piping. However, this usually means sacrificing the rather stylish Cupra front bumper, as it's not available with RSB covers. You would then have to switch to the FR front bumper instead.

Hi,
The Cupra front bumper was available with SRA, but probably only from the facelift of the 6L model onwards. From that point on, only the Cupra front bumpers were available for all models. This must have been around the beginning of 2006.
I might still convert it to have the Cupra look, but you won't find the SRA bumper at a cheap parts store.

hi,

No, that's not correct. Up until 2006, the base models had a standard bumper with a lattice grille, while the FR and Cupra models had a bumper with a honeycomb grille. Here, only the standard bumper with SRA (presumably referring to a specific feature or trim) was available.

Since 2006 (facelift), there has been a new, smoother standard bumper (with small honeycomb patterns for the standard front and slats at the top, a large honeycomb grille at the top, and a different design for the FR models) that can be equipped with or without the SRA (aerodynamic kit). The genuine Cupra bumper is only available in one version – without the SRA.

Part number: 6LL807217A GRU.

Here's an overview of everything, presented as images:

Cupra front bumper, 2003-2008 (remained unchanged throughout the production period).

Part number: 6LL807217A GRU.

I hope this helps you a little bit further icon_smile.gif. In the last two images, you can also see that the facelift and the Cupra models are not identical in shape, but are similar. SEAT used the sporty look of the Cupra as a basis for the facelift, so that the Serein models would also better reflect the sporty character of the brand.

After-market bumpers are a definite no-go when it comes to SEATs, based on my experience... I only order original parts now. The green one above is a customer vehicle that we completely converted from the 2003 model to the facelift version with a full paint job, and I considered using an aftermarket bumper then. However, due to past bad experiences, I ended up buying the original parts, which at least fit 100%.

Greetings.
Georg.

Oh, those are nice pictures. It's clear that the facelift has a completely different bumper compared to the Cupra. I wonder how much the SRA bumper with the FR honeycomb grille pattern would cost from Seat?

Thank you, Ibiza.

I can even look up the prices for you, at least the prices from the order our client placed, see the attachment.

The price includes approximately €210 for the bumper itself. The mounting points are the same, so it's a perfect fit, as are the headlight adjustment nozzles. Only the covers are different, so new ones are included.

The prices listed in this document are valid as of May 2009.

I've also attached some more detailed pictures of the top and bottom grilles.

That's probably how it is. Since the FMIC piping is only visible in the area of the front bumper when the bumper is removed, it would be too much effort just to take a picture.

Well, the redesigned front end actually looks okay aesthetically – especially if you add the FR honeycomb grille.

"What would certainly be possible is to install universal spray nozzles or universal nozzles that are only located in the bumper. However, the appearance wouldn't be ideal."

"And if you switch from hub cylinder nozzles to regular nozzles, you need a pressure distributor/shut-off valve, otherwise the container will empty."

If you're planning something like that, let me know, and I'll find the contact information for the distributor. All VAG cars with standard nozzle injectors have them, like our Octavia 1 icon_smile.gif.

Oh, great!
Thanks, Ibiza. I'll start working on the modifications soon. The facelift looks good, and I need to replace the bumper anyway because it's damaged.
Perhaps also at the rear, although the difference isn't as significant as at the front.

You just need to imagine the painted lower section is removed on the red 6L. The pre-facelift models have these indented trim pieces, which look terrible if you have them on the rear but not on the front...

Furthermore, the actual black rear section continues downwards and is integrated into the lower part of the black rear bumper. The redesigned front bumper extends all the way down, which would be another stylistic inconsistency.

And if you have to get it painted anyway, it's usually not that much more expensive to have a second one done as well.

If you want, I can look up the part numbers for the front reflectors (both sides) and the rear lower trim piece later. It's available with or without an exhaust cutout, and it's black. We had the one shown above matte titanium gray.

Here are a few words about assembly:

* 99% works without any modifications.
* Front before facelift: There are foam pads glued to the mounting bracket where the bumper rests, but they are very small and only at the corners, and they don't fit properly anymore... you have to remove them first, otherwise you'll be struggling with the front bumper for ages.
* The old SRA hub nozzles still fit, but the covers that are screwed onto the bumper no longer do, so I've included them in my list.
* The rear fits perfectly without any issues.
"When ordering parts for the front grille, etc., it's a good idea to also order the small screws, as your SEAT dealer will likely see in the AKTE system that the old ones are often corroded."
* For the upper part of the radiator grille, you should reorder the two rivets that secure the middle grille, as they are likely to be broken in 90% of cases.

"If anything is unclear, feel free to ask. I've been through all of this before."

You're right, it would be pointless to just replace a single bar. It would be great if you could also give me the part numbers for the reflectors and the facelift rear bumper, with or without the cutout.
Then the collection is complete.
Oh yes, where did you get the upper central front part, and the chrome trim, without the Seat logo?

"Wow, that was already on the customer's car, I just refined it a bit and painted the border black gloss, while the ridges were painted in the titanium gray of the rest of the grille."

You can usually find them everywhere on online marketplaces; just search for something like "grill without logo" and they typically cost between 10 and 25 euros.

I will look for those numbers at work tomorrow and post them here for you.

Because it was asked, and Ulf is too lazy icon_wink.gif to remove his front bumper, here's a picture of the FMIC (Front Mount Intercooler) of the Cupra.

Okay, now I can see it in person... In my opinion, the problem is the upper intercooler pipe, which is severely obstructing the injector.

See the attached image. The green line indicates the nozzle, which is in the way.

@RedR32Viewing profile: RedR32: I've marked the buffers mentioned above with red arrows... you need to remove them from the bumper, otherwise you'll spend hours trying to figure out why the facelift front bumper doesn't fit.
