Okay, here's a dumb question that's been bothering me since I bought my Passat:

Is the turbo whistle really no longer audible?

After various problems with the charging regulation and VTG adjustment, the speedometer now indicates a top speed of approximately 185 km/h, which I believe is relatively slow.

Engine specifications:

1Z engine, 1.9 TDI, 90 horsepower, manufactured in August 1995.

Thank you and best regards.

Burli.

Hi.

As far as I know, you can't usually hear a noticeable turbocharger whine in most TDIs. And if you do, it's usually only at low RPMs or when accelerating with the car stationary.

- The 1Z does not have a VTG supercharger.
- 185 kilometers per hour according to the speedometer, or is that the actual speed?
- Regarding the supposed sluggishness: the DZR test usually provides clarity icon_idea.gif.

Hello Ulf,

Actually, when I mentioned the VTG adjustment, I was referring to the adjustment of the bypass flaps.

'Nevertheless, thank you.'

I'm not hearing any whistling from my turbo either. According to my LDA (likely referring to a data logger), the full boost pressure doesn't even kick in until around 2300 RPM (which is late, right?). But I'll worry about that later; first, I need to fix this rough idling.

[- as far as the supposed sluggishness is concerned: the DZR test usually provides clarity icon_idea.gif.

Um, where can I find this DZR test?

Unfortunately, I couldn't get any further using the search function icon_rolleyes.gif.
