Hello.
On an AYM engine in an A4 (155 hp, manufactured in 2002), with approximately 300,000 km on the odometer, the camshafts are worn, the lifters are worn out, etc. - a typical failure pattern for this engine. Now, new camshafts are to be installed, which leads to my first question:
Where can I buy a complete set of hydraulic components, pressure pieces, levers, and shafts of good quality at a fair price? On ePray, prices start at €600, but there are many different variations offered (flame-hardened, induction-hardened, forged, etc.).
I'd like to find a set that's definitely durable and will last a long time. If it costs 1000 instead of 600, that's okay too...
Here's a translation of the German text:
"Besides the initial maintenance, the following items are typically replaced based on mileage: engine oil and filter, both timing belts, all idler and tensioner pulleys, tensioner arm and vibration damper, water pump, thermostat, and fuel injectors are currently on the list."
How about the belt, pulleys, and tensioner for the auxiliary components? Are there any known issues with those parts? If so, they would be replaced directly.
Sure, no problem.
Best regards, Matze.
P.S.: If anyone has a link to a good repair documentary, a parts list, or anything similar, please share it.

Make sure to replace the serpentine belt along with all its components. This includes the tensioner and, most importantly, the tensioner arm. If the arm is loose, also replace the bearing pin and bushings. However, these parts are difficult to access.
Some people, for safety's sake, even remove both oil pans to remove any debris.
Then we could also include the Simmering ring and the cylinder head gasket in the process. Gruß Christian

Stay away from that eBay junk. One of my customers ruined their entire engine buying parts from there. Buy genuine Audi parts, or you won't be happy. MfG. Michael

Good morning.
Are the new ones from 'Der Freundliche' (a specific company or brand) better hardened or surface-treated compared to the originally installed ones? In other words, are the NW (noise/vibration) problems then resolved?
I'm asking because I'm about to buy an A4 2.5 TDI, model year 2001, with 190,000 km on the odometer, and I want to proactively replace the water pump during the next timing belt change. Does that even make sense?
Thank you!

It depends on what you're planning to do.
To be honest, I would advise against it, because the risk of investing a lot of money is simply too unpredictable. Take the money you've budgeted for repairs, add it to the purchase price, and look for a more reliable engine.

Hello Pölscheich!
I received a complete timing belt and ribbed belt kit from a good friend and a parts specialist at the GAudi center. It included all the belts, tensioners, idler pulleys, screws, covers, thermostat, and water pump. At a friend's price, parts worth almost 1000 euros were sold. So, the costs involved are quite significant. You can save a few more euros with OEM parts of equivalent quality from a reliable aftermarket supplier, but unfortunately, maintaining a V6 engine is not cheap. (I'm sure you already know that...)
Best regards!
Frank.
